Lead Data Scientist

London
Technology – Data Science
Full-Time
Welcome! We’re Attest: a Consumer Growth Platform. We’re on a mission to bring every business closer to consumers, and empower them with the insights that drive predictable and repeatable growth; enabling them to create and deliver better, more useful services, products and experiences for communities worldwide.

We’re spearheaded by a bunch of awesome individuals, and our guess is that you’re pretty awesome, too. We’re ultra-proud of the inclusive company we’ve built to date. Attest is not just an exciting place to work alongside great people, but a feeling – one of belonging and adventure. We’re delighted that you’ve taken the first step to becoming an Attester by expressing an interest in who we are and what we do.

About the Technology team
Engineers join us for the technical challenges we overcome and stay for the incredible culture our Engineers create and grow, from talking at meetups such as the monthly 'London Microservices Meetup' (hosted and set up by our very own Technical Director) to contributing regularly to open source software (we're lucky to have the core contributor to Vue.js in our ranks). We work very closely with Product and Design in cross-functional squads, each of which has the autonomy to practice agile in the way that works best for them. We're also excited to build out a Data Science function here at Attest, focusing on ML and NLP techniques to provide greater insights to our customers and safeguard our high data quality.

About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our expanding team, and join us in the creation of a new function within Attest.

We have been using NLP techniques to analyse free text answers and make predictions about their validity, with views to extend this to semantic analysis and entity recognition. Coding in python, using libraries such as scikit learn and tensorflow our next focus is to augment our results experience, enabling clients to easily derive insights on the Attest platform. Using our newly launched innovation pipeline we hope to discover new and exciting projects and implement them using data science and machine learning.

You will play a critical role in the expansion and evolution of the Data Science team, and the development of products and services that bring to life the full power of the important datasets Attest generates.

As a contributing team lead, you’ll have a wide-ranging role: designing the data science function, helping us to recruit top-tier talent, and training, coaching and up-skilling existing team members; all while working on projects yourself, role-modelling best practices and appropriate skill sets.

You’ll work on the Attest core product, creating new features for our customers:

Identifying and serving insights to customers from the data created by respondents to help our customers gain insights.
Further understanding respondent answers, developing reasoning about answer sets, and assessing validity based on quality scoring.
Create customer guidance based on past cohort behaviour; creating training and enablement processes, optimising client usability.

Working alongside our engineering and product teams, you will take data science projects from idea to production. You will also work closely with the Attest Center of Excellence, identifying ways to produce complex client reporting and analysis, in simple, low touch, high-impact ways.

You’ll start by working with and mentoring our existing data scientist. We’ll soon be scaling up the team, approaching four new members by end 2019.

What you’ll be doing
Collaborate with the whole company to identify new use cases, develop ideas with our clients and create best-in-class products.
Teach and mentor other data scientists in the team, and the wider company about your discipline.
Build machine learning models and deliver them to our customers with help from our engineers.
Participate in engineering & product planning, stand-ups and retrospective meetings.
Explore new innovative ideas and solve existing problems in creative ways.

Who you are
A team player. Collaborative, self-motivated, creative, entrepreneurial & thoughtful style.
A leader. You enjoy teaching and seeing the team progress in their careers.
A challenge lover. You enjoy solving complex data & machine learning problems efficiently.
Results-driven. With proactive use and exploration of new technologies and methodologies from academia and the tech sector.
You love delivery. You love to see your solutions available to real users.
An evangelist. You are active within the data science community and you love to contribute articles and speak at events.

What you’ll bring to Attest
Expertise in developing and implementing Natural Language Processing and recommendation models.
Expertise in a programming language like Python, and associated libraries e.g., scikit-learn, tensorflow, and other libraries for statistical modelling and implementing supervised and unsupervised machine learning models.
Experience using SQL and other data extraction techniques to compile relevant data from different data sources.
Experience handling large scale datasets, data preprocessing and transformation.
Experience in aiding recruitment and strategy, and mentoring more junior members of the team.
Experience in building, implementing and using analytic stacks (e.g., Looker, redshift, AWS pipelines, SQL, Tableau, Google APIs) is desirable, along with an interest in using data to inform marketing and commercial strategy.
