About The Role
Avalere is seeking a Business Development Lead (BDL) to join our Client Solutions practice, the sales function with primary responsibility for driving sales, business development, and revenue generation across the growth accounts for the Advisory team. The BDL will be the primary point of contact for new opportunities across new and growing life sciences clients with responsibility for prospecting, engaging, and closing sales to this segment. The BDL is a partner to Subject Matter Expert (SME) colleagues in opportunity pursuits and is the chief person responsible for driving the commercial aspect of client interactions, including representing Avalere’s services, understanding client needs, translating client needs to a compelling proposal, and navigating client procurement and urgency to a closed sale.

We work with a diverse range of clients spanning pharmaceuticals, biotech, health plans, government, providers, advocacy and patient groups, and other organizations who seek to improve the healthcare system. Avalere’s experts span 150+ staff drawn from Fortune 500 healthcare companies, the federal government (e.g., CMS, OMB, CBO, Congress), top consultancies, and nonprofits. The firm offers deep substance and perspective on the full range of healthcare business issues.
What you'll do
- Manage and grow a portfolio of key accounts within Life Sciences sector, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction and retention.
- Build and maintain productive, long-lasting client relationships. Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing their needs and ensuring clients receive exceptional service.
- Understand client needs and industry challenges. Create and deliver tailored consulting solutions that add value and meet client objectives.
- Stay current with industry trends, market developments, and competitor activities. Use this knowledge to inform sales strategies and provide insights to clients.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales enablement, proposal development, and subject matter experts/project delivery teams, to ensure client needs are met and solutions are delivered effectively.
- Monitor and report on account performance, sales metrics, and client feedback. Use data to drive decision-making and improve account strategies.
- Maintain Salesforce opportunities for assigned remit in an accurate, timely way
- Support development of targeted business plan that includes elements of strategy and tactical execution
- Contribute to sales pipeline generation sufficient to achieve sales targets
- Deploy commercial skills and client knowledge to successfully close opportunities in the most efficient manner
- Organize pursuit teams; participate and lead aspects of the proposal development process; contribute to the development of proposal pricing strategies
- Coordinate various opportunity teams to identify and execute on business development initiatives
- Collaborate with Avalere's Subject Matter Experts to identify and understand new opportunities
- Proactively anticipate customer needs based on market activity and intelligence
- Measure against quarterly and annual goals/metrics to assess progress
- Coordinate the generation of new leads and supports execution of business development goals
- Utilize systems like Salesforce, ZoomInfo, Outreach.io, LinkedIn accounts and educate team members on best practices
- Represent Avalere to the market and build relationships with clients at industry events, like professional conferences
- Synthesize subject matter expertise from across the firm into compelling client engagement that resulting in pipeline generation

About you
- Bachelor's degree (and/or equivalent years of experience)
- Significant knowledge of the life sciences industry - NB: candidates without a background in life sciences are unlikely to advance in the selection process
- 5+ years of experience in a high-performance sales organization
- Proven success achieving individual sales targets over multiple years
- Strong understanding of the sales environment, including sales content, tools and training
- Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) platforms (e.g., Salesforce), content management, and learning management systems
- Demonstrated ability to build internal relationships with sales and marketing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

$120,000 - $140,000 a year
