Role Overview
Avero is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our growing data engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing scalable data solutions that empower internal teams and drive customer-facing analytics. You will work closely with our Data Architect and other stakeholders to evolve our data models and infrastructure, with a strong focus on advanced SQL, data transformation, and workflow orchestration.
This is a hands-on individual contributor role with architectural influence. You’ll write production-grade SQL and Python code, collaborate on data modeling and system design, and help ensure our data pipelines are robust, efficient, and maintainable.
This is a 100% remote position reporting to Avero’s Vice President of Engineering. As we continue to expand our data capabilities, there may be opportunities to grow a team around this role, offering future leadership potential for the right candidate.
Who You Are
- An experienced data engineer with a deep mastery of SQL and strong fundamentals in data modeling
- Skilled in Python and comfortable working with modern data workflow orchestration tools like Airflow
- Thoughtful and detail-oriented, with a passion for building clean, performant, and reliable data pipelines
- Excited to collaborate with architects and product/engineering teams to shape our data strategy
- A strong communicator and problem solver, particularly in a distributed team environment
- Comfortable balancing pragmatic execution with long-term technical quality
What You'll Do
- Design and build reliable, performant ELT pipelines using SQL, Python, and Airflow
- Collaborate with our Data Architect on data modeling, schema design, and warehouse optimization
- Develop and maintain data infrastructure to support internal analytics and external reporting features
- Ensure data quality and integrity through testing, monitoring, and documentation
- Work closely with engineering and product teams to deliver data that enables smarter decisions
- Participate in code reviews and continuously improve our data engineering best practices
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in production data workflows as needed

- Databases & Storage: Oracle, PostgreSQL, Snowflake
- Data Infrastructure: AWS (S3, RDS, EC2), Terraform, Docker
- BI & Analytics: Looker, Tableau (bonus, not required)
