Full-time
Azavea is a Philadelphia-based firm that designs and develops award-winning custom geospatial software. As a B Corporation, our mission is to advance the state-of-the-art in geospatial technology and apply it for civic, social, and environmental good. Since 2000, we’ve created technologically advanced solutions for geospatial data visualization and analysis and support a broad range of government, academic, commercial, and nonprofit clients. We’re excited about what we do, we're growing, and we hope you will join us to help grow Azavea further. Find out more about careers at Azavea here.

We are looking for someone who is excited about the opportunity to apply technology for good and has a strong desire to develop their business development skills. You will report directly to the VP of Business Development and will work with the Proposals and Contracts Manager, the Marketing Team, and other business development colleagues to cultivate customer and partner relationships that will drive top-line revenue growth. You should be a great listener, a strong visual, written, and spoken communicator, and a creative problem-solver who excels at managing a high volume of tasks with your organization skills. While you will be working closely with a supportive team and manager, you should also be comfortable working independently and demonstrate a strong sense of initiative, ownership, and responsibility.

What you will do:

    • Support the VP of Business Development in designing and executing outreach activities to expand Azavea’s client and partner base in the following sectors that span for-profit, non-profit, government and multilateral organizations: climate change, conservation (forestry, water, wildlife), sustainable development, and civic engagement
    • Deeply understand Azavea's products and services in order to effectively articulate our value to prospective customers
    • Identify target clients via market research and internal conversations with colleagues
    • Conduct initial outreach to target clients and respond to inbound leads
    • Foster relationships with existing and potential clients by gathering post-project feedback and maintaining contact
    • Collaborate with the Marketing Team to create content such as webinars, white papers, blogs, demos, social media posts, etc. to support business development activities and outreach
    • Represent Azavea at external events (post Covid pandemic)

Qualities we are looking for:

    • Commitment to a consultative sales process. This means you: get curious and love to understand the issues clients are facing, build towards a long term relationship, and understanding that this is not transactional sale
    • Proactive and self-motivated in finding opportunities to contribute to a team
    • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, problem solve and navigate through ambiguity
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
    • Goal-oriented mindset, able to work individually as well as collectively with a team
    • Resourceful and can think outside the box
    • Meticulous organization and documentation skills
    • Desire to grow professionally in terms of your technical and business knowledge

You get extra points for:

    • Knowledge of GIS, software engineering, satellite/drone imagery, or machine learning
    • Specific domain knowledge in climate change, conservation, sustainable development, new space, civic engagement
    • Previous experience with large government or nonprofit organization grant and proposal writing
    • Experience administering databases or software solutions for an organization (such as HubSpot, mySQL, Salesforce, etc.)
A note on hiring during the COVID-19 pandemic:
Due to regulations in Philadelphia and our concern for our team’s health and safety, we will be conducting all interviews remotely for the foreseeable future. While most of our staff generally work out of our Philadelphia office, we have transitioned the entire company to remote work. If the office remains closed at the time of hiring, we have made arrangements for remote onboarding, including shipping relevant materials and a laptop to homes. We are fortunate to have invested in meaningful work-from-home tools and processes over the years and have been able to continue providing a secure, flexible, and safe work environment for all of our colleagues. We ask for your patience as we adapt our hiring process as well, and we are happy to answer any questions or concerns about the process.
