User Research champions the human-centred exploration of complex problems using evidence, data and insight to help us make better decisions. 

This Lead User Researcher role is within the Consultation Tribe in the Clinical Care Super Tribe, focusing on developing innovative solutions to support clinicians in delivering care to our patients. 

As a member of the Clinical Care leadership team, you’ll be a leading performer, managing people and projects at both a Tribe and squad level. You’ll be connecting insights and approaches across multiple squads and collaborating with colleagues across time zones and other tribes to encourage a joined-up view. You’ll also be part of the Research Design Leadership team, helping build relationships with US based stakeholders, shaping Design Research capability and processes, playing a key role in scaling methods, tools and activities that deliver value and forge strong relationships.





Key Responsibilities

    • Your role will be a combination of delivery of research, line management and tribe leadership duties
    • You will manage your own time and that of others based on having an in depth understanding of the strategic and commercial priorities of the tribe and business and knowing how your work ladders up into this - you will prioritise based on what work will bring the biggest benefits and you will be able to succinctly and accurately explain this and your decisions to your team so that they understand the context for their work
    • Acting primarily as an embedded researcher within a squad, managing and undertaking strategic and tactical research projects
    • Supporting and informing teams as they tackle summative and generative design research problems, suggesting mixed-method approaches that are creative and robust
    • Owning the Design Research roadmap for the whole of Pre-Consultation
    • Building strong relationships at a Tribe and Squad level and taking on responsibility for the delivery of high quality and robust design research outcomes
    • You will own and oversee the development of artefacts and shareable insights that will help the whole of CCX make sense of complexity and align across squads
    • Line managing other more junior researchers in the Tribe. Two researchers initially with potential to increase to three in the future
    • Leading and mentoring others in your team on what good research looks like, through the execution, synthesis and communication of actionable insights
    • Contributing to the development of Design Research capability across the organisation through creating and reviewing process documentation, workshops, training sessions, guides and artefacts
    • You drive the overall quality of work within the team through constructive critiques and reviews, encouraging high performance and creative solutions

Key Skills Required:

    • You are an expert in the execution of multiple mixed-method research approaches, and are beginning to scale your impact through advising, guiding and reviewing the work of others
    • On top of your strong general toolkit, you also have deep specialisation in a few key methods or areas which make you a go-to person in the team
    • You drive the overall quality of work within the team through constructive critiques and reviews, encouraging high performance and creative solutions
    • Evaluative research - Is able to prepare large usability projects unaided, liaising with recruiters, internal staff, stakeholders and team to bring together effective and efficient research
    • Generative research - Actively organises for teams around them to participate in user-focused development, advocating for the user at all stages
    • Synthesis of information - Can solely operate on large scale projects, produces insightful, actionable insights
