ABOUT THE JOB  
As aStaff Metallurgical Engineer, you will engage in all facets of process design & implementation of our proprietary lithium-ion battery recycling processes and primary resource extraction and purification technologies. The primary function of the candidate will work closely with our research and development laboratoryteam, and engage with our engineering organization, our plant operations team, and various external experts to ensure the successful design, construction, and operations of our facilities. The ideal candidate will be familiar with metallurgical engineering related process research & development, hydrometallurgical processing, mineral process, pyrometallurgical processing, and designing and conducting experiments needed for operations of first-of-kind facilities. They should be passionate about designing, implementing, and maintaining efficient metallurgical processes and accounting, ensuring quality control of outputs, specifying equipment, and working in a high-performance and fast-paced environment.  The candidate will be a team-player,problem-solver, and have a keen interest in scaling processes proven at the bench-scale up to pilot- or pre-commercial scales. This should include a constant focus on evaluating current processing steps and proposing and developing next-generation solutions to continuously improve system performance and operability. This position will report to our Director of Research & Development.
RESPONSIBILITIES
*Laboratory support for the research and design of battery recycling & primary resource extraction and purification systems from laboratory scale to pilot and commercial. 
*Design and conduct experiments to develop novel processing routes for extracting elemental battery components from battery feedstock and refining back up to cathode grade specifications. 
* Design and conduct experiments to develop novel processing routes for extracting lithium from claystone and downstream refining back up to battery grade specifications. 
*Optimization of process chemistries 
*Complete mass and energy process on new processing designs and metallurgical accounting 
*Support operations and engineering by providing technical feedback of metallurgy fundamentals and process chemistry. 
*Data analysis, report writing, and presentations of results. 
QUALIFICATIONS  
Minimal Required
B.S degree in Metallurgical Engineering or related field with similar experience.  
Strong Hydrometallurgical background 
Strong understanding of both organic and inorganic chemistry. 
Strong laboratory skills: wet-chemistry, particle/mineral processing 
Strong understanding of analytical chemistry tools (ICP-OES, TGA, GC-MS, Ion Chromatography) 
Mining and Mineral Processing background (Metals and Minerals) and metallurgical accounting. 
Desired Qualification
Advanced Degrees (M.S, Ph.D.) in Metallurgical Engineering or Mineral Processing preferred. 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS 
  Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, up to 6 hours/day or more. 
Ability to move samples and materials (no more than 50 lbs in weight) from lab to lab 
Ability to wear PPE which includes, but not limited to long pants and closed toed shoes, lab coat, eye protection, hand and face protection, respirators. 
Ability to work in an environment that may include exposure to dust, noise, and chemicals for an extended period. 
Good manual dexterity for the use of common office and laboratory equipment 
Must have good vision, 20/20 or corrected vision. 
Location  
Onsite - Reno, NV laboratory on campus at University of Nevada, Reno campus and/or ABTC plant operations at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center.
