The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring patients' wellbeing and providing a positive, supportive environment for patients and other staff while working in conjunction with physicians, advanced practitioners, front office, and clinical staff. Medical Assistants may also be required to assist or cover the front desk when necessary to expedite patient flow. The successful Medical Assistant will have strong communication skills and a dedication to customer service and patient care.
This position requires the MA to be in clinic Tuesday - Saturday 9am - 6pm.
Responsibilities
- At the direction of the provider and by all regulations, must be able to prepare and administer all prescribed PO medication and intranasal administration only after successful demonstration and completion of the clinical competency skills checklist.
- Facilitate patient workflow by identifying any barriers as they occur.
- Perform clinical intake with patients to include taking and recording vital signs and pertinent history in patient's chart (electronic medical record), patient data collection (e.g., chief complaint, allergies, medical history including current medications, social history, vital signs, etc.).
- Starting IVs
- Assist patients as needed with walking and room transfer. Assist safely to the car if needed when patients are without a friend or family member.
- Prepare examination rooms for patient treatments, keeping patient areas clean and appropriately stocked.
- Assist clinical staff/clinician during the patient visit.
- Apply logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, and approaches to problems.
- Ensure the well-being of all patients and provide a positive, supportive environment for staff.
- Triage patients and call as needed.
- Maintain and organize all instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Maintain clinical supplies and equipment and ensure proper storage of biohazards.
- Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
- Practice effective infection control practices and policies.
- Open, concise, and complete EMR and paper-based documentation for all assessments and procedures.
- Ability to deal with confidential information appropriately.
- Other reasonable duties as required by leadership, such as new models of care and new types of procedures, etc.
- Answering incoming phone calls, directing them to the appropriate person or department, and taking messages when necessary.
- Responsible for performing various administrative tasks
- Schedule appointments for patients, verify insurance coverage, and provide patients with instructions on how to prepare for their appointment.
Education & Certufications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- CPR Certification required.
- Must have recent experience with IV administration
- Completion of Medical Assistant training program for the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT), or any other recognized certifying body approved by the Board.
Experience
- Demonstrate customer service experience.
- Experience working in the healthcare or mental health field is a plus.
- Knowledge of essential computer software and a willingness to learn electronic medical records systems (EMR).
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including OSHA and HIPAA requirements.
- Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication that is clear, well-organized, and appropriate. Quickly grasps and exhibits an understanding of audience needs.

Working Conditions
- Environment: Professional healthcare setting with combination of office work and patient interaction areas
- Physical Requirements: Ability to spend extended periods at computer workstation and move throughout clinical facility
$20 - $25 an hour
