The Position
Are you a hands-on leader with a background in operations, waste management, or environmental compliance? Do you take pride in running clean, efficient, and people-centered facilities? If so, we invite you to join our team as our Recycling Operations Manager. This role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and long-term performance of our three permitted solid waste facilities in Oakland, including a Large Volume Transfer/Processing Facility, Inert Debris (Type A) Processing Operation and Small Volume Chipping & Grinding Operation. You'll lead a team, ensure regulatory compliance, manage equipment and maintenance needs, and work closely with other departments to keep things running smoothly and safely. You’ll report directly to the Director of Operations and play a key leadership role in helping us fulfill our mission.

What You'll Be Doing
- Leadership & Team Management:
- Train, schedule, and support facility personnel across all shifts
- Lead daily tailgate meetings and maintain a strong presence with your team
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork
- Empower supervisors and delegate responsibility when off-site
- Promote a values-driven environment rooted in integrity and continuous improvement
- Operations & Facility Oversight:
- Manage daily facility operations—from sorting and processing to outbound material shipments
- Create and enforce operational checklists, and ensure follow-through
- Oversee regular servicing of equipment and coordination of repairs
- Maintain facility infrastructure, including scale house, electrical systems, and structural integrity
- Collaborate with the Logistics Coordinator on trucking, scheduling, and material endpoints
- Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, and solid waste regulations
- Oversee adherence to Transfer Processing Report (TPR) protocols, including load checks and material rejection tracking
- Ensure water and air board compliance and proper documentation
- Complete and submit required reports—monthly, quarterly, and annually (RDRS, tonnage, city compliance, etc.)
- Ensure Deputy Weighmasters are properly trained, scheduled, and customer-focused
- Safety & Risk Management:
- Lead by example in promoting workplace safety
- Ensure all safety-sensitive roles are filled and operating according to policy
- Respond quickly and appropriately to operational or safety emergencies
- Financial & Resource Management:
- Oversee purchasing and cost-effective use of consumables
- Track and report on key performance metrics (KPIs), working closely with executive leadership
- Ensure operations stay within budget while achieving productivity goals
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 28 years old and legally eligible to work in the U.S.
- Required trainings/certifications (to be specified)
- Proficient in TRUX, ASANA, Paychex, and Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Gmail, etc.)
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to set and meet time-bound goals and KPIs
- Career-minded individual with a desire to grow alongside a purpose-driven business
Experience & Education (Must have one of the following)
- Master’s degree in Business, Operations Management, or related field; OR
- Bachelor’s degree + minimum 3 years in a supervisory/management role; OR
- 7–10 years of relevant operational management experience in construction, recycling, or waste industries
$90,000 - $120,000 a year
Range Dependent on Skills and Experience.
