Belvedere is looking for someone passionate about monitoring, maintaining, and providing operational support of our entire database platform. You will improve the performance and efficiency of our data storage and access systems that deliver the high-quality and reliable data that our business depends on. You will be instrumental in maintaining the high availability, stability, integrity, and top performance of our data systems. You will be challenged to pick up industry knowledge and technical skills to expand your capabilities.   
As part of the Data Team at Belvedere, you must be ready to dig deeply into complex problems, adapt to changes in technologies and business requirements, and voice your perspective on improving the team experience and outcomes. 

What you'll do

    • Operate and maintain continuous operation of on-prem and cloud databases (SQL Server, Google BigQuery, Google Cloud SQL) 
    • Minimize downtime and quickly respond to incidents affecting performance and usability of data systems 
    • Address performance issues by identifying and implementing solutions, which may involve hardware upgrades, server configuration adjustments, or optimizing queries and indexes. 
    • Support developers with efficient query and data modeling for traditional SQL, SQL Warehouse, and NoSQL use cases  
    • Design monitoring, dashboards, and operational health and maintenance plans for our Databases 
    • Support and diagnose issues with data pipelines, ETL jobs, replication, and other critical systems dependent on databases. 
    • Debug code in applications, notebooks, and batch jobs to identify and improve query performance and behavior. 
    • Develop a working mastery of our data sources through efficient querying and self-learning. 

What you'll need

    • Proficiency with SQL with understanding of the difference in syntax and performance between different database technologies.   
    • Experience operating and supporting database infrastructure  
    • Experience in installation and configuration of new SQL Servers as required. 
    • Familiarity with DB change control processes and tools 
    • Demonstrated knowledge of availability technologies such as clustering, mirroring, replication. 
    • Exposure to working in modern cloud data warehouses and tools.  
    • Comfort using or learning to use development languages and tools, esp. Python. 
    • Attention to detail and curiosity to understand data. 
    • Unrelenting desire to get to the bottom of the problem and get it right.   
    • Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.   
    • Passionate about supporting data consumers and development teams during working hours.  
    • 2+ years of experience preferred.
