Berkeley Lights is looking for a dynamic and energetic person to fill the role of Electrical Development Engineer. As a member of our Hardware Engineering team, you will be responsible for contributing to the hardware development of our commercial product offerings. This person must be able to work with a talented team to engineer robust solutions to our toughest problems. This person must be passionate about engineering, a quick learner, and love working at a dynamic startup company that will change the world!


    • Develop analog / digital circuit boards including power conversion, front end sensor circuits, motor drivers, ADC / DAC, 32-bit microcontroller and FPGAs 
    • Schematic Entry and PCB layout using Altium Designer is required
    • Design simulation using LTspice
    • Participate in peer design reviews
    • Coordinate and release design documentation
    • Create PCB layout for low noise, high reliability board designs
    • Post-design, support and troubleshoot using oscilloscopes, logic/spectrum analyzers and other test equipment 

Required Qualifications:

    • BSEE/MSEE degree or equivalent 
    • 0-3 years HW development experience with scientific instrumentation, commercial, or medical products 
    • A well rounded background in analog design with mixed signal interface and conversion circuit knowledge with the ability to specify components or sub-assemblies
    • Experience with power conversion for high efficiency, low power, and low noise systems 
    • Familiarity with good EMI/EMC design practices
    • Experience with PCB layout, packaging, and test of low-noise, mixed-mode circuitry, preferably for Electro/Optical systems
    • Strong design debug and troubleshooting skills with solid hands-on lab experience using oscilloscopes, logic/spectrum analyzers and other test equipment required
    • Proficiency with Altium Designer (schematic capture and PCB layout), LTspice, etc. tools required
    • An understanding of mechanical design considerations and packaging tradeoffs  

Nice to Have:

    • Python scripting experience
    • Regulatory compliance test and design experience

    • You will have the drive to deliver outstanding products to our customers and the ability to adapt to change (as being on the edge of technology means constantly changing and adapting)

The annual base salary for this role ranges from $84,500-$127,000. Actual compensation within this range will vary based on experience, education, knowledge, and skills, and will be determined through our standard interviewing, assessment, and leveling process at the time of hiring.
