The Modeling and Performance Engineer will be responsible for analyzing, modeling, and testing fixed wing and vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft performance. They will work with component and aircraft-level test data to identify improvements in underlying models to better estimate and optimize aircraft performance. They will also develop and maintain company performance tools that are validated, traceable, and scalable. This role will span both R&D and Certification activities, supporting concepts from design through flight test demonstrations of regulatory requirements.
How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
- Conduct aircraft performance analyses for both fixed and VTOL aircraft across all phases of flight
- Develop mission profile analyses and associated tools for subsystem design, flight planning, Pilot Operating Handbook (POH) performance charts, and concepts of operations (CONOPs) development
- Support performance flight testing from test card generation to data reduction, model updates, and certification reports
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 3-5 years of experience in aircraft performance analysis and/or flight testing
- Experience modeling and simulating aircraft dynamics and associated subsystems
- Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, and Python
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Above and Beyond Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Experience with system identification techniques, from test definition through analysis and model validation
- Experience with aerodynamic analysis methods of varying fidelity (panel methods, CFD, etc.)
- Experience building and maintaining performance tools that generate work products such as mission profiles, performance charts, and performance projections
- In-depth knowledge of design, analysis, and flight test validation of aircraft control laws
$85,000 - $130,000 a year
The wage listed here reflects our best faith estimate for this role. We pay competitively and base compensation on a variety of factors including skills, experience, industry background, and the evolving needs of the role.
