BioBus, Inc. is pleased to announce a job opening for a Lead Community Scientist.  Interested in developing new program partnerships with NYC schools and community organizations? Want to achieve BioBus’s mission of giving everyone a chance to reach their full scientific potential and creating a more diverse, inclusive scientific community? We are seeking someone with rigorous scientific training and a passion for education to join BioBus. The candidate must have worked in the realm of science outreach for more than 4 years with program management, leadership, and teaching experience. This role will report to the Chief Scientific Officer and will lead partnership development and community engagement efforts across NYC.

BioBus helps K-12 and college students discover, explore, and pursue science. We focus on students excluded from the scientific community due to factors such as race, gender, economic status, and physical access. Through this work, we envision a world where all people have the opportunity to reach their full scientific potential. We’ve reached 300,000 students at more than 800 schools since 2008, primarily in NYC public and charter schools and as far away as California, and even Egypt and Jordan. Our students access and become part of the scientific community through introductory science labs aboard our mobile labs and science stations at their schools; after-school, weekend, and summer programs; and year-long internships. Lead Community Scientist Qualifications

    • Minimum Qualifications
    • Graduate degree OR significant scientific research experience
    • 2 years of community outreach experience
    • 2 years of teaching experience, formal or informal
    • Program management experience with fundraising and revenue generation experience
    • Exceptional written and spoken communication skills
    • A passion for creating a more diverse scientific community!

    • Preferred Qualifications
    • Teaching or outreach experience in NYC public schools
    • Social media expertise


    • Partnership Development.  Growing existing program partnerships with NYC schools and community organizations as well as developing new partnerships within BioBus's existing strategy. Later, developing strategy for partnership development. Make data driven decisions using program data via our Salesforce database to improve recruitment and retention of program partners. (50%)

    • Revenue Development. Develop marketing and communication strategies to increase program awareness, engagement, and sales from program partners. Develop relationships with funders who might sponsor programs with under-resourced program partners. (30%)

    • Other responsibilities. You will be trained to teach BioBus science classes, as we believe every scientist at BioBus, even in management roles, should continue science teaching in some capacity, to develop and maintain connections with our program partners and other staff. In addition, you will contribute to overall development activities via meetings and workshops with science teams and fundraising team (20%).
The minimum salary for this position is $69,000. If hired for this position, a salary offer may include additional compensation based on years of relevant experience and degrees. Compensation at BioBus is competitive, commensurate with experience, and is in alignment with internal equity. BioBus regularly conducts a thorough study of market-competitive salaries. Our goal is to ensure that pay is fair and competitive for all staff members, both considering the market and considering pay equity among staff in similar roles in the organization. In addition, BioBus offers a very generous health benefits package, as well as a Flexible Spending Accounts for medical, childcare and commuter expenses, and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Benefits preview available here. Additionally, BioBus offers generous time off with pay in order to support a sustainable high performance work culture. Full time staff accrue 25 days of PTO per year, in addition to time off for holidays, personal days and sick days. We also offer a paid sabbatical for full time staff after seven years of service.
This position is included in a union-represented collective bargaining unit, and specific terms and conditions of employment are subject to collective bargaining negotiations.
