We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Scale Operator to join our team. As the Scale Operator, you will be responsible for weighing and recording inbound and outbound organic feedstock shipments at our state-of-the-art anaerobic digestion center located 7900 Oceano Avenue, Jessup, MD 20794. This role will maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements. The Scale Operator will report to the Facility Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Determine load types and affix proper operating sequence to receive and exit vehicles through incoming and outgoing scales.
    • Operate and read scales; prepare and issue accurate tickets/receipts as necessary.
    • Maintain scale house & scale equipment, keeping a clean and organized work environment, including the surrounding area.
    • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of scales and other equipment.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including safety regulations and environmental regulations.
    • Collect and enter accurate data into ticketing & computer system or the other record-keeping systems.
    • Consult with Commercial Team and Floor Supervisor for scheduled feedstock deliveries and pickups.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, operations, and accounting, to ensure accurate record-keeping and timely processing.
    • Submit service tickets to Maintenance or IT department as needed.
    • Assist floor staff with general processing between feedstock deliveries, including but not limited to directing traffic, offloading organic wastes onto tipping floor, perform quality control inspection of waste, collect material samples and prepare for lab submittals, introduce waste into process using heavy equipment, and upkeep general cleanliness.
    • Provide excellent customer service to drivers and other personnel and respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
    • Monitor and report any equipment malfunctions or safely hazards to management.
    • Stay up to date with developments in transportation regulations and industry standards and recommend changes to our processes as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS | EXPERIENCE

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Proven experience as a scale operator, with a track record of maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Excellent math skills, with the ability to accurately weigh and record shipments.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with drivers and other personnel.
    • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Familiarity with computer systems and record-keeping software
    • Understanding of transportation regulations and safety requirements
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Experience with forklift and other material handling equipment is a plus. 
Physical Requirements

STRONG ODOR. We use the anaerobic digestion process to convert organic food waste to renewable natural gas. MUST BE ABLE TO WORK INDOOR AND OUT WITH STRONG SMELLS.Mobility to stand, sit, walk, stoop, twist, bend, climb ladders, crawl, balance, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds.As our plant deals with organic waste, please note there is a possibility of coming in contact with various food allergens.
