We are searching for a passionate and experienced Lead Android Firmware Engineer to join our growing team developing next-generation medical device ecosystem powered by Android OS. You will play a pivotal role in leading the design, development, and implementation of core software components for these devices, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and security. This role will help with both hands-on development as well as team leadership including planning, grooming and driving project activities for mobile, SDK and connectivity solutions through full product lifecycle in alignment with the Quality Management Systems. You will also support end to end architecture, development, DevOps, and verification of our connectivity data pipeline from device to cloud and work collaboratively with other functions to deliver a high quality, secure end to end medical devices and solutions.

What you will be doing

    • Lead and mentor a team of software engineers in the design and development of medical device software applications using the Android platform, demonstrating strong leadership by guiding the team, setting clear goals, and fostering an environment of collaboration. Proven ability to independently research complex issues, troubleshoot challenges, and implement effective solutions to ensure project success.
    • Working as a subject matter expert in our 24x7 digital support team and troubleshoot basic to advanced technical issues on Device Provisioning – Gateway, Sim service management, OTA firmware updates, Remote server management
    • Possess a deep understanding of the Android kernel and its interaction with hardware components.
    • Design, develop, and implement low-level system functionalities critical for medical device operation.
    • Integrate and leverage Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Wifi technology for seamless wireless communication between the device and other systems.
    • Architect and implement robust cloud connectivity using AWS IoT services.
    • Understand and apply enterprise networking principles for seamless device integration in healthcare environments.
    • Lead the development of user-facing Android applications using Kotlin, ensuring modern, performant experiences.
    • Create supporting tools and scripts using Python to streamline development and testing processes.
    • Collaborate with hardware engineers, product managers, and regulatory teams to ensure software adheres to medical device safety and regulatory requirements.
    • Drive the creation and execution of software development plans, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality features.
    • Identify and implement best practices for code quality, maintainability, and testing.
    • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in Android OS, BLE technology, AWS IoT, Kotlin, Python, and medical device software development.

What you need

    • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
    • Minimum 5+ years of experience in embedded systems development, preferably with medical devices.
    • In-depth knowledge of the Android operating system, including kernel-level interactions.
    • Proven experience with hands-on development of low-level system functionalities.
    • Strong understanding of BLE technology and its implementation in Android environments.
    • Experience integrating AWS IoT (or similar cloud IoT platforms) in embedded systems.
    • Solid understanding of enterprise networking concepts and protocols.
    • Proficiency in Kotlin for modern Android app development.
    • Experience with Python for scripting and tooling.
    • Experience with software development methodologies (Agile preferred).
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
    • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
    • A passion for innovation and a commitment to developing solutions that improve patient lives.
    • Familiarity with medical device regulations (FDA, etc.) a plus.
    • Experience with Quality Management Systems in highly regulated environments.
    • Experience with tool chains, workflows and DevSecOps and cybersecurity implementation for IoT.
    • Experience with testing and verification including unit, penetration, integration, performance, and reliability.
    • Knowledge of data driven analysis and applied statistics.
    • Experience with process development and change management.
    • Strong oral and written communications skills in English and ability to work with global stakeholders effectively. Experience in Medical Device industry
$120,000 - $200,000 a year
