BIS Safety Software is a fast-growing technology company providing leading software for the safety industry. We’re looking for a Course Development Lead, a hands-on leader who thrives on getting things done. This isn’t a traditional project manager role, it’s bigger than that. You’ll lead a small but mighty team, drive high-impact course development projects, and work closely with both clients and internal teams to make sure we’re building the right things, the right way, at the right time.

Founded in 2006, BIS is proudly headquartered in Sherwood Park, Alberta. We have developed a world class software solution by emphasizing client relationships and continuous innovation, and we are looking to continue our growth across North America and around the world.

Our Course Development team develops online safety courses that help individuals and organizations stay educated, compliant with safety regulations, and ultimately reduce the risk of workplace injuries.

You’ll be the kind of person who sees both the big picture and the immediate next step. In this role, you’ll help shape our course roadmap, translate business needs into clear plans, and make sure the team has what they need to succeed. You’ll work directly with clients and BIS leadership to scope projects, clarify feedback, and keep things moving forward. Most importantly, you’ll bring strong leadership, clear communication, and a deep sense of ownership to every course we build.

This is an in-person role based out of our Sherwood Park office.

In this role, you'll be expected to:

    • Lead course development projects from start to finish - planning, prioritizing, resourcing, and making sure the work gets done
    • Manage a team of content creators and contributors, coaching, delegating, and helping them stay focused and productive
    • Drive the full course development pipeline, balancing marketplace launches, client custom builds, and updates to existing content
    • Build and maintain a clear action plan for the department such as what’s on our plate now, what’s coming up, and what needs to shift
    • Keep things fast-paced and focused, this role thrives on momentum, decision-making, and clear direction
    • Be the primary liaison for clients during course builds, confidently managing feedback, timelines, and expectations
    • Ensure quality and consistency across all deliverables by reviewing everything from visuals to structure before delivery
    • Use your technical knowledge to shape how we build and deliver courses, from tools and systems to automation and AI opportunities
    • Support business priorities by scoping timelines and quoting costs, you don’t need to be a finance expert, but you should understand resource planning and project impact
    • Maintain and grow the overall success of our course development function by evolving systems, building capacity, and helping the team scale smartly

You might be the right fit if you:

    • Lead with a clear sense of purpose and direction, people know what to expect from you and trust you to make things happen
    • Are confident and professional when working with clients and internal teams, you know how to ask good questions, navigate feedback, and keep communication flowing
    • Love being in the thick of it, organizing projects, adjusting plans, and helping others stay on track
    • Aren’t afraid to challenge assumptions, push for clarity, and set priorities when everything feels urgent
    • Prefer fast-moving environments where every day looks a little different
    • Are technically inclined—you don’t need to code, but you should be comfortable learning tools and working closely with software and systems teams
    • Have at least 2+ years of experience leading a team or managing project contributors—especially in course development, training, or software
    • Bring practical business judgment—you understand cost, effort, and outcomes, and how they connect to bigger company goals

Bonus points if you have:

    • Experience in safety training or regulatory course development.
    • Familiarity with government course approval processes or industry-specific standards.
    • Instructional design background or LMS knowledge.
    • Experience with international content strategy or outreach.
    • Bilingual or multilingual communication skills.
