Bixal is seeking a Spanish Translator to support one of our clients in the delivery of curated, consumer-focused health information. The ideal candidate has native fluency in Spanish and has strong knowledge of medical and public health terminology.

This position is part time and averages 20 hours per week. Candidate must have availability during business hours and must be located within the continental US. This is a short term contract opportunity with work guaranteed through July 3 with the possibility of an extension. Candidates must be available to travel to Bethesda, MD or Durham, NC for fingerprinting.

Requirements

    • Fluent ability to read, write, and speak both Spanish and English in a business/professional setting and at the consumer level.
    • Professional experience in a bilingual setting is required.
    • Experience with consumer-level health information in English and Spanish.
    • Awareness of culturally-appropriate Spanish for the U.S. Hispanic and Latino community.
    • At least one year of experience with evaluating or working with health information.
    • Ability to work in a database or content management system. Training in the system will be provided, but the individual must have a high comfort level with learning systems, inputting data, and searching or using other available tools from the system.
$44 - $46 an hour

Duties include:

•  Provide Spanish-language expertise to keep MedlinePlus in Español content current, culturally sensitive, and relevant to a wide Spanish-speaking audience.
 Make changes, updates, or corrections to health topics and medical test monographs and create new
entries based on the most recent NLM guidelines and practices.
 Maintain high quality database entries according to current policies and procedures.
•  Translate new content as necessary using culturally neutral Spanish translations.
•  Provide updated translations for the 100 reviewed Medical Test monographs as well as full translations for the three new Medical Test monographs per year.
•  Actively participate in the planning, development, testing, and implementation of a single consumer health information portal (“One Consumer Health”).
•  Occasionally support other NLM Spanish-language products and services.
•  Assist with SEO initiatives, including translations and revisions of title tags and other meta data.
•  Support coordination and information sharing with Spanish-language programs elsewhere at NIH and in sister agencies.
