What will you do?

Feed the Future (FTF) Knowledge, Data, Learning and Training, (KDLT) is a newly awarded multi-year project funded by USAID. The goal of this project is to develop knowledge products and resources using various learning methods to contribute to USAID’s investments in reducing global hunger, malnutrition and poverty. Our focus is to provide technical leadership to support the evolution of strategic learning and knowledge management to address challenges in developing countries and create transformation in the way food systems work.
 
The Digital Communications Lead will report to the Senior Knowledge Management and Organizational Learning Advisor for KDLT.  You will supervise a small team of staff working on project communications, media engagement, website management, ICT, and related functions.  The Digital Communications Lead will be responsible for establishing, building, and implementing a strategic vision and plan for project-wide internal and external communications, particularly the project website (www.agrilinks.org); leading communications initiatives on the project (including digital campaigns, social media outreach, and other initiatives); managing media outreach; producing the e-newsletter; and playing a key role in any website re-design processes for sites managed by the project.   

Responsibilities:

    • Strategic communications
    • Conceptualize and conduct a baseline project communications assessment that will guide the strategic direction for the communications approach
    • Using the communications assessment results, formulate a strategic communications vision and plan for the project
    • Lead the strategy for and execution of highly effective and visible online communications efforts across the project, including email campaigns, blogs, and partner platforms

    • Website management
    • Oversee the management of the Agrilinks website, including 1) produce and post content using the website content management system; 2) provide quality assurance and edit content across the website
    • Play an active role in the Agrilinks re-design and support content migration efforts
    • Work in close collaboration with team members to optimize website content for search engines and improve overall traffic to client sites
    • Work with the data team members to track and report on web analytics
    • Work closely with other team members to monitor website resources and new developments in the field to stay current while exploring opportunities to expand the resources offered on client websites

    • Social media and outreach (to media and partners)
    • Develop a media outreach strategy and oversee media engagement
    • Formulate social media strategy and develop content across various social media platforms

    • Communications development (writing, editing, and formatting)
    • Oversee production of the project e-newsletter
    • Analyze audience needs and prepare compelling, high-quality content across a range of products to communicate strategic messages to attract, engage and inform key internal and external audiences
    • Develop editorial style guidelines for project-wide publications and knowledge products
    • Develop guidance and processes to ensure compliance with USAID branding and marking guidelines and 508 compliance
    • Plan and manage communications support to activities and events across KDLT to ensure high quality delivery
    • Manage a team of communications and design experts (full time and part time) to ensure communications is supported appropriately across KDLT activities

    • Other tasks
    • As requested, and as project time permits, support business development initiatives to enhance and grow Bixal’s business, including proposal writing and providing support to articulate and document technical approaches

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in international development, communications, public relations, marketing, or related field.  Master’s degree in a relevant field requested but not required, especially with complementary experience
    • 5-7 years of post-graduate communications experience working in a non-profit, PR agency, government or corporate setting
    • Expertise in developing and implementing a wide range of strategic communications activities, including digital campaigns (e.g., e-newsletters, social media strategy, traditional media engagement, success stories) as well as written collateral and products
    • Experience with website content design and strategy
    • Strong knowledge of or experience working in international development, and familiarity with issues related to agricultural development, food security, and resilience within a developing country context
    • Demonstrated oral and written communications skills
    • Proficient in web-based technology, social media and digital strategy
    • Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite and developing cutting-edge graphics
    • Team player with a good sense of humor who thrives in a collaborative and results driven work environment
    • Proven excellence in juggling multiple and frequent deadlines with high attention to detail and delivering on time with high client and stakeholder engagement  

Nice to haves:

    • Experience working with USAID and/or other development donors    
    • Familiarity with USAID branding and marking requirements
    • Lived and/or worked in developing country for a minimum of two years
    • Proficiency in French, Portuguese or Spanish
