In 2022, we announced that our studio is implementing a four-day work week as well as supporting in-studio, remote within Canada, and hybrid work arrangements as permanent options to our employees.

Blackbird Interactive is looking for a highly motivated HR Generalist to join our team. You will be connecting with employees, planning and delivering people programs, utilizing HR technology to help us be more efficient, and working with the HR team, managers, and employees to foster a fun, inclusive, collaborative, and effective workplace. This role is ideal for a “builder” and “doer” mindset who is searching for an exciting role in video games, and enjoys the toggle between planning and executing to bring people and projects into harmony.

Areas of Accountability

Employment Life Cycle

    • Facilitating onboarding and orientation for all new hires from pre-hire throughout their first 3 months to ensure a positive and engaging employee experience.
    • Ensuring timely employee documentation is processed as employees grow, move to new projects, or utilize their benefits.
    • Supporting our immigration consultants by gathering the data and staying informed on requirements to streamline and manage studio immigration procedures.
    • Coordinating the relocation process alongside external vendors as needed.

Employee Relations

    • Developing strong relationships with employees by acting as a primary point of contact for day-to-day HR questions, requests, and issues.
    • Advising employees on policies and procedures, time off, and benefits programs.
    • Supporting the annual compensation process by assisting with the completion of compensation surveys, creating reports, and data reporting.

HR Operations

    • Reviewing and maintaining various HR policies alongside the executive team and department managers.
    • Liaising with benefit providers, acting as a central point of contact to resolve issues, and disseminating new policy information and related materials.
    • Tracking and managing all leave of absence requests and medical accommodations.
    • Time-off Management: generating reports, following up with managers and employees on leave of absences and returns to work.
    • Working closely with Production on compensatory time off, ensuring up-to-date information is correctly tracked on each employee.
    • Ensuring managers and project leaders have the right access, workflow approvals, and everything is documented in SOPs.
    • Creating reporting on Payroll including sick days and transfers to submit to the Finance team.
    • Process Improvement - looking for opportunities to automate and simplify manual and repetitive tasks.
    • Maintaining data integrity via workflow configuration, data entry, reports, access & permissions, new module implementation in our HRIS (BambooHR).
    • Maintaining and expanding HR metrics through preparing, analyzing, and organizing HR reports.

Employee Experience /Culture

    • Partnering with stakeholders to identify and create programs related to initiatives such as wellness, retention, benefits, and employee engagement.

Studio Partnership

    • Participating in Workforce planning with people and department leaders.

Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or a related field 3+ years of relevant HR experience.
    • Exposure to the full cycle recruitment process, preferably in a technical and/or start-up environment.
    • Growth-oriented and adaptable to change, comfortable with ambiguity and using judgment, approaches situations with curiosity and openness to learn.
    • Strong understanding of the regulations and policies of provincial labour standards.
    • Effective communication (both verbal and written) skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
    • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), HRIS, and/or ATS systems (BambooHR, Lever).
    • A high degree of flexibility to adapt to and effectively manage multiple priorities and escalate or delegate tasks appropriately.

Bonus Skills You May Bring to Our Team

    • Chartered Human Resources Professional designation (CPHR) is an asset.
    • Strong project management skills and initiative - you have the ability to convert your ideas into reality.
    • Experience with creating customizations in an HRIS system.
$75,000 - $85,000 a year
