Hi, I’m Natalie Dusome, Founder and CEO of Poppy & Peonies, a fun and energetic brand that believes styles and function should co-exist. We’re passionate about creating practical pieces that help make life a little easier and lighten the load, literally.
Building Poppy & Peonies has been a wild adventure. The journey began when my daughter Poppy was born and my accessories no longer worked with my new life as a mom, I needed bags with pockets and organization that looked cool and had functionality. I couldn’t find it, so I decided to create it, and in 2015 Poppy & Peonies was born.
We’ve come a long way in five years – from filling orders in my basement to appearing on Dragons’ Den, and now, expanding into new product categories and collaborating with some exciting influencers and brands. I’d be lying if I said it’s been nothing but smooth sailing, but thanks to our incredible community, we’ve never felt more loved and supported!
We believe in our responsibility to care for our environment and we are passionate about preserving the health and welfare of our planet, and the animals that live on it. All of our bags are made from high-quality vegan leather, and our entire product line is vegan, cruelty-free, and PETA-approved. We ship our products plastic-free and we use a combination of recycled, compostable, and biodegradable materials to mitigate shipping waste, and we are constantly looking for new ways to make our products and supply chain more sustainable to reduce our carbon footprint.
About the Role
As our Chief Financial Officer, you’ll be a key strategic partner driving financial clarity and operational discipline as we scale rapidly at Poppy & Peonies.
Reporting directly to the Founder & CEO, you’ll own all aspects of finance, from building agile forecasting models and strengthening fiscal infrastructure to shaping data-backed strategies that support bold growth. You’ll help us move fast and smart, ensuring cash flow, compliance, and profitability keep pace with our ambitions. Your insights will power confident decision-making as we expand our reach, deepen our impact, and prepare for what’s next.
The Opportunity
- Drive Strategic Financial Planning & Growth Modelling: Own the development and execution of financial strategy and business planning, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and providing guidance to the CEO and leadership team to support key decisions.
- Analyze new revenue opportunities.
- Evaluate capital expenditures, ROI scenarios, and pricing strategies to optimize unit economics and profitability.
- Lead Budgeting, Forecasting & Performance Analysis: Develop annual budgets, monthly forecasts, and long-range plans in partnership with department leads.
- Build dynamic financial models to support strategic initiatives, product launches, and seasonal planning.
- Track and report on KPIs across departments—especially gross margin, CAC, LTV, inventory turnover, and contribution margin.
- Cash Flow & Treasury Management: Manage liquidity, working capital, and short-term financing needs to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
- Forecast and optimize cash flow around seasonality, production cycles, and marketing campaigns.
- Develop treasury strategies to manage reserves, credit lines, and capital structure. Develop long-term capital plans to ensure business continuity during periods of rapid growth or market shifts.
- Ensure Financial Compliance, Risk Management & Controls: Maintain rigorous internal controls, processes, and documentation across all financial functions.
- Lead preparation for audits, manage relationships with tax and legal advisors, and oversee all compliance filings.
- Mitigate financial and operational risks through appropriate insurance, legal contracts, and vendor due diligence.
- Cross-Functional Financial Partnership: Partner closely with heads of Marketing, Merchandising, Operations, and People to align business strategy with financial goals.
- Help shape merchandising plans through a financial lens: product mix, pricing, markdown strategy, and margin targets.
- Collaborate with Ops & Supply Chain on inventory planning, demand forecasting, and COGS optimization.
- Support Operational Scale & Infrastructure: Oversee core financial operations by ensuring timely and accurate management of all accounting processes completed by direct report.
- Drive financial systems and operational scalability as the team, product line, and distribution channels expand.
- Implement process automation and data-driven decision-making across the finance org and beyond.
- Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing finance and accounting team.
What You Bring to the Table
- Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role- ideally in fashion and eCommerce.
- Strong command of GAAP, budgeting, and financial modelling.
- Experience managing audits, tax filings and compliance activities.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to roll up your sleeves in a hands-on, high-growth environment.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated success in building scalable financial processes and systems.
- CPA or CFA designation.

Location
- We are looking for someone located in Canada to join our remote Finance & Accounting team.
- Travel to team retreats and events will be required.
