At Blue Coding, we specialize in hiring excellent developers and amazing people from all over Latin America and other parts of the world. For the past 11 years, we’ve helped cutting-edge companies in the United States and Canada build great development teams and develop great products. Large multinationals, digital agencies, Saas providers, and software consulting firms are just a few of our clients. Our team of over 150 engineers, project managers, QA, UX/UI designers, and many more is distributed in more than 10 countries across the Americas. We are a fully remote company working with a wide array of technologies, and we have expertise in every stage of the software development process.
Our team is highly connected, united, and culturally diverse, and our collaborators are involved in many initiatives around the world, from wildlife preservation to volunteering at local charities. We stand for honesty, fairness, respect, efficiency, hard work, and cooperation.
What are we looking for?
In this opportunity, we are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to work with one of our US clients, a corporation that, through its subsidiaries, provides life insurance protection targeted to the middle American market.
The initial focus of this role will be on production support, analyzing and resolving root causes of recurring requests. Over time, responsibilities will expand into a mix of feature development, technical ownership, reducing technical debt, and modernization initiatives such as migrating applications to scalable serverless solutions on AWS.
This is a predominantly backend-focused role (90%), with minimal frontend involvement (≤10%).
If you are fully fluent in English, proactive, communicate well, enjoy solving problems, and have a strong attention to detail, this role might be a great fit for you. Our jobs are fully remote, and you will be integrated directly into the client’s team, gaining valuable experience and forming meaningful connections.
What's unique about this job?
Through innovation in product design and distribution that provides access to the middle market, including call center and web-enabled sales and underwriting processes, quick issuance of policies and an emphasis on products not medically underwritten at the time of sale, the company seeks to make life insurance more affordable for the middle market.
Here are some of the exciting day-to-day challenges you will face in this role:
- Lead the analysis and resolution of recurring production issues, ensuring long-term stability.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services across Ruby, .NET, and Python stacks.
- Contribute to modernization efforts, including migration to serverless solutions (AWS Lambda) and .NET application upgrades.
- Champion operational excellence, including monitoring, observability, performance tuning, and incident response.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers at all levels, fostering a culture of collaboration and continual improvement.
- Ensure secure software development practices, including dependency management and data privacy standards (HIPAA knowledge is a plus, not a requirement).
- Promote and implement CI/CD pipelines and best practices to deliver high-quality releases.
You will shine if you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field; or 5–8 years of progressive software development experience.
- Proven hands-on experience with Ruby (Sinatra, Padrino, legacy Rails) and .NET/C#, plus exposure to Python for new serverless features in AWS.
- Ability to analyze, refactor, and optimize large legacy codebases while balancing ongoing production support with long-term modernization.
- Strong SQL expertise with relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server), including writing and optimizing complex queries.
- Solid experience in AWS services (Lambda, ECS, RDS, EC2) and familiarity with event-driven/serverless architectures.
- Knowledge of infrastructure as code, preferably with Terraform, to automate and scale environments.
- Skilled in unit and integration testing (RSpec, Minitest, Mocha for browser-based JS), CI/CD pipelines, git workflows, and deployment strategies.
- Experience in troubleshooting and resolving critical production issues (SEV-1 incidents) and contributing to post-incident reviews.
- Familiarity with secure software development practices, including dependency management, vulnerability remediation, and data privacy standards (HIPAA is a plus, but not required).
- Strong communication skills and proven ability to mentor junior and mid-level developers, lead technical discussions, and align team processes.
- A proactive mindset with the ability to drive technical decisions, influence long-term planning, and contribute to modernization strategies.
