Howard University Fellowship Program
Based in Washington D.C, BlueLabs was formed in early 2013 by senior members of the Obama for America analytics team. We help organizations personalize their engagements with individuals, optimize communications, and achieve their strategic goals. Our team includes more than 40 data scientists, engineers, and strategists from diverse backgrounds who share a passion for using data to solve the world’s greatest social and analytical challenges. Through our work, we’ve directly and measurably improved the health and financial security of millions of Americans.
Since 2013, we’ve served more than 300 organizations, run more than 1,000 randomized experiments, built hundreds of models, generated over 6 billion touch points, reached virtually every contactable person in the United States, and driven significant improvements in some of the highest-profile private sector, advocacy, and government programs around the world. Along the way, we’ve developed some of the most innovative tools available in media optimization, reporting, and influencer outreach.
Our clients range from political campaigns to advocacy groups, unions, government agencies, and international groups, as well as global companies in the automotive, travel, consumer packaged goods, entertainment, healthcare, media, telecom, and other industries.
BlueLabs/Howard University Technology/Development Fellowship Program
At BlueLabs, we relish the opportunity to teach, collaborate with, and learn from each one of our fellows. Our fellowship program isn't like most typical DC intern experiences. We ask our fellows to become a part of the BlueLabs family, to work intensively on a wide variety of projects, to undertake their own research, and to help us become a stronger contributor to social good. Our BlueLabs/Howard University fellowship program is currently recruiting applicants for our technology/development team. As a fellow you will be assigned a mentor to help guide you through your time at BlueLabs and ensure you have the resources you need to be successful. We will hold frequent trainings to teach you the tools and skills you need to make meaningful contributions to the work we and our partners do. We will ask a lot of you, and in return we are confident you will leave with a greater understanding of how data, analytics, and technology are changing the world.
Our fellows come from a variety of backgrounds (undergraduate and graduate schools - with majors varying from computer science to politics; public health to classics), and have a wide-array of skills (data and analysis, technical languages, communications experience), but they all have a strong interest in social justice, politics, or advocacy.
Our fellows are paid, full- or part-time, and academic credit is also available.
We are seeking current Howard University students or alumni/ae who are interested in a semester-long, or longer, paid fellowship with BlueLabs. You must have a Howard.edu email address to apply.
We look for the following attributes:
- Interest in using talents and skills for social good
- Great attitude and work ethic
- Ability to prioritize and manage several tasks simultaneously
- Curiosity and a willingness to learn
- Solid critical thinking skills
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Tech/Development Fellows should have the following:
- A strong interest in software development
- Experience working with databases
- Familiarity with one or more of the following: Java, Ruby, Python, Git, HTML, CSS, JQuery, Mobile, SQL
