Welding Inspector (Certified Welding Inspector - CWI)

Responsibilities

    • Conduct visual inspections of welds to ensure they meet specified quality standards and codes.
    • Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, and dye penetrant testing.
    • Interpret welding symbols, blueprints, and specifications to verify conformance to requirements.
    • Monitor welding procedures and parameters to ensure compliance with welding procedures specifications (WPS).
    • Document inspection results, maintain detailed records, and prepare inspection reports.
    • Collaborate with engineers, welders, and other team members to address welding issues and implement corrective actions.
    • Participate in welder qualification testing and welding procedure qualification testing as required.
    • Conduct pre-weld and post-weld inspections to identify and rectify defects.
    • Stay updated on industry standards, codes, and regulations relevant to welding and inspection practices.
    • Promote a culture of safety and quality within the organization.

Requirements

    • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification from the American Welding Society (AWS) is required.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in welding inspection in a similar industry, preferably in mining or tunneling.
    • Thorough understanding of welding processes, procedures, and metallurgy.
    • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and welding symbols.
    • Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, and dye penetrant testing.
    • Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
    • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various job sites as required.

Additional Requirements

    • Willing to travel to job sites as required to commission & develop new designs, as well as troubleshoot and problem-solve existing designs.
    • Ability to work long hours and weekends as necessary.
    • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. unassisted
    • Ability to stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces.
