Responsibilities
- Conduct visual inspections of welds to ensure they meet specified quality standards and codes.
- Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, and dye penetrant testing.
- Interpret welding symbols, blueprints, and specifications to verify conformance to requirements.
- Monitor welding procedures and parameters to ensure compliance with welding procedures specifications (WPS).
- Document inspection results, maintain detailed records, and prepare inspection reports.
- Collaborate with engineers, welders, and other team members to address welding issues and implement corrective actions.
- Participate in welder qualification testing and welding procedure qualification testing as required.
- Conduct pre-weld and post-weld inspections to identify and rectify defects.
- Stay updated on industry standards, codes, and regulations relevant to welding and inspection practices.
- Promote a culture of safety and quality within the organization.
Requirements
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification from the American Welding Society (AWS) is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in welding inspection in a similar industry, preferably in mining or tunneling.
- Thorough understanding of welding processes, procedures, and metallurgy.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and welding symbols.
- Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, and dye penetrant testing.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various job sites as required.
Additional Requirements
- Willing to travel to job sites as required to commission & develop new designs, as well as troubleshoot and problem-solve existing designs.
- Ability to work long hours and weekends as necessary.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. unassisted
- Ability to stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces.
