The head coach at Bouldering Project will have a pivotal role in building and driving the continued growth of youth and adult climbing teams. They provide excellent customer service, engagement, and connection as they introduce people to and support them on their lifelong journey with climbing in a way that is healthy, sustainable, fulfilling, and fun. Collaborating with the programs manager, setting team, and other coaching staff, this role involves building out the team programs and facilitating practices that are designed to support both adult and youth climbers in their development as athletes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    • Work with the programs manager to design, develop, and implement comprehensive climbing programs catering to climbers of varying skill levels, including recreational and competitive youth and adults.
    • Provide expert instruction in climbing techniques, safety practices, and training methodologies to individuals and groups.
    • Lead youth climbing team tryouts, weekly youth and adult team practices, and mock competitions as appropriate.
    • Travel as needed to coach at youth climbing competitions.
    • Supervise climbers during practices and competitions while modeling BP values and appropriate support and motivation.
    • Provide personalized coaching and feedback to each climber to help them overcome challenges, improve weaknesses, and achieve their climbing goals.
    • Actively respond to customer needs, membership and event questions, inquiries, and feedback.
    • Work collaboratively with other coaches and managers to ensure program coherence and alignment with the facility's goals and objectives.
    • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

    • Available to work evenings and weekends.
    • Technical proficiency in climbing.
    • Possess a high level of athletic empathy.
    • Previous experience as a climbing coach.
    • First AID/CPR certification preferred.

FACILITY SAFETY AND INCIDENT RESPONSE

    • Ensure the safety of participants, staff, and other customers through group organization, oversight, and control.
    • Actively promote risk mitigation through ongoing instruction and orientation.
    • Respond to accidents and incidents following the BP Safety Manual and Protocol and properly document any incidents through the incident report log.

    • This is an hourly, part-time position with the possibility of scaling to full-time.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Many duties require the availability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs and events, including possible evenings and weekends. Some travel may be required for competitions.
