About the Role:
Bowery Farming is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join our team to support our full-time operations across our various facilities. The Controls Engineer will Report to the Director of Operations Systems Engineering. The responsibilities include PLC programming, SCADA system development, process implementation and optimization, and troubleshooting across multiple systems. The Controls Engineer will be involved with the design, commissioning, ramp-up, and operations of several farms. The Controls Engineer will support Facilities and Maintenance teams in preparing preventative maintenance and standard operating procedures documentation as well as act as a subject matter expert during complex troubleshooting scenarios.

What You'll Do:

    • Focus on the development of standards, standard operating procedures, preventative maintenance documentation, and the execution of research and development (R&D) projects.
    • Develop and execute installation of automated systems at several locations
    • Monitor and improve the systems performance during several phases of production
    • Provide technical root cause analysis on automated systems and prepare potential solutions
    • Travel to existing and future farms to assist with operations and construction/start-up activities.  Travel time varies up to 40%Manage vendors across mechanical, electrical and on-call contractors
    • Work cross functionally with multiple teams to build relationships and drive innovation throughout the company. 
    • Work across multiple shifts, supporting operations when necessary

Who You Are:

    • Relevant years experience in Engineering (Controls, Automation, Electrical, Manufacturing, Warehouse Management, or Mechanical Automation)
    • Experience leading and managing remote vendor teams
    • Experience managing fast track design/build projects or multiple significant upgrade projects
    • Experience leading Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of automation equipment
    • Experience developing design documentation (functional specifications, operations manuals, mechanical and electrical schematics)
    • Proven ability to read/write and troubleshoot PLC code (Omron, Allen Bradley, or Siemens) including ladder logic and structured text. 
    • Experience with motor control (ATL, Softstarters, and VFDs)
    • Experience installing and programming HMIs (Rockwell, Weintek)
    • Proven experience with hands-on troubleshooting controls related hardware and electrical system
    • Experience with AS/RS systems and other inventory related robotics and automated systems
    • Experience with WES (Warehouse Execution System) working in conjunction with AS/RS systems
    • Experience with installing, developing, and optimizing SCADA systems (Ignition)
    • Understanding of Warehouse Execution / Management / Control Systems
    • Ability to read and write schematics using AutoCAD (3D is nice to have)
    • Strong time management skills with a sense of urgency
    • You’re a team player and work well with others in the face of challenges and a common mission 
    • Ability to multitask and prioritize diverse tasks, to hit hard deadlines, and to know when to escalate issues that arise.
    • You thrive in ambiguity and play nice in the sandbox.
