Data Science at Bowery means building production-facing data products which automate the agricultural and operational functions in our network of indoor vertical farms. The Data & AI function at Bowery is central to the vision of the company as well as its day to day operation. You’ll work with our team of data scientists (algorithms and analytics) as well as agricultural scientists and supply chain managers who bring the domain expertise to our data-driven solutions.

What You'll Do:

    • Create innovative quantitative solutions and advance the state of indoor farming alongside supply chain managers, mechanical engineers, and agricultural operations specialists.
    • Combine agricultural considerations with production demands to maximize plant growth and fulfillment.
    • Optimize work and production schedules to achieve the highest utilization of grow time and space in the farm.
    • Use the key drivers of Bowery's business and agricultural science to design experimental frameworks to ensure data integrity and empower us to more easily analyze and act upon data from new trials.
    • Analyze historical crop yield and sales data to forecast upcoming orders and fulfillment, and uncover insights about how to optimize.
    • Analyze historical data related to crop growth and environmental characteristics to forecast yields for future harvests and uncover insights about ways conditions can be optimized.
    • Help shape the way our data science team does work - researching and making key decisions about what we build, how we build it, and which tools are best for solving our problems.
    • Work alongside software engineers to implement data processing and visualization systems that make data readily available and simplify how insights are communicated.
    • You won’t target ads, optimize signup funnels, or recommend anything for anyone to click on.

What You Have:

    • Extensive experience applying various algorithmic techniques to solving real-world problems.
    • Experience deploying software that makes decisions, and measuring the impact of those decisions.
    • Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders to implement or maintain software that serves business needs.
    • Fluency in Python and enjoy building software the team can depend on.
    • Proficiency with SQL and can work “full stack” to integrate solutions with our data ecosystem.
    • Confidence in taking ownership of projects from start to finish and enjoy the process of turning nebulous ideas into reality.
    • Enthusiasm for translating business, operations, and agricultural questions into data science problems, solving those problems, and interpreting the output back into clear outcomes.
    • A strong mathematical background in probability, statistics, and optimization algorithms.

Benefits As Good As Our Greens:

    • To support you and your family, we offer health, dental, and vision insurance; mental health resources; family forming support; long-term and short-term disability insurance; FSA; HSA; commuter benefits and gym reimbursement.

We think the starting salary for this role is $160,000, but it might vary depending on skills and experiences. If this role is of interest to you, you should apply no matter what. You can trust us to make an assessment based on your unique skills and experience and communicate that with you.

Bowery is an equal opportunity employer -  a place that celebrates unique backgrounds, qualities, and cultures that will enrich the workplace. We are attempting to redefine what a sustainable agricultural supply chain can look like. We cannot achieve this mission without a team that reflects the diversity of people who want fresh, locally grown food in regard to race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, age, national origin, religion, family status, disability, military status, and experience. We strongly encourage people from marginalized communities to apply to join our team.
