Who You Are:
The R&D Accounting Manager will serve as the accounting lead for all R&D accounting including pre-clinical and clinical development projects and marketed product manufacturing. The role is an integral part of a growing accounting team and needs have strong operational experience with full-cycle accounts payable, month-end close process, and FP&A operations. The R&D Accounting Manager will report into the Controller.

Position Summary

    • Liaise with multiple groups, CROs, and vendors monthly regarding: overall progress of clinical trials to budget, completion of work at period end by CROs, labs, and other vendors, and number of patient visits completed and site costs incurred
    • Collaborate with clinical operations and contracts to gain an understanding of drafted contracts and work orders for planned projects
    • Responsible for accounting close for all R&D accounting including pre-clinical and clinical and manufacturing 
    • Manage and coordinate planning exercises to meet corporate reporting schedules and goals
    • Drive accounting with monthly & quarterly accruals - ensure coding accuracy for BvA
    • Proactively examine research purchase orders to assess percentage completion or timing of delivery of goods or services
    • Design and maintain accrual models in MS Excel
    • Propose automated solutions to accrual accounting for future consideration
    • Assist the senior accounting manager in review of clinical and research contracts
    • Analyze invoice data and compare to budget, contracts, and work orders to derive needed accruals or prepaid expenses at each period end
    • Review monthly account reconciliations and work with FP&A on detailed clinical rollforwards
    • Reviewing reports and presentations to management on the status of each accrual area
    • Document desktop procedures and perform required steps under SOX for each month-end close
    • Provide assistance to Controller on ad hoc projects as needed

Education, Experience & Skills Requirements:

    • Degree in accounting or finance
    • CPA required
    • Biotech experience a must
    • Big 4 experience highly preferred
    • 4 or more years of relevant experience.
    • Excellent technical accounting research skills
    • Public accounting experience strongly preferred
    • Strong project management skills, attention to detail, accuracy, ability to work independently and multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines
    • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
    • Outstanding organization and detail-oriented skills
    • Results-oriented team player who leads by example and takes full ownership of work
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint
