Brooks Internship Program:

Brooks Running hosts summer internships at our Seattle HQ offices to provide hands-on, meaningful work experience to further enhance your education and professional aptitude. Our interns gain exposure to real work, and projects while working side by side with Brooks employees and leadership. If chosen for this role, you will join a cohort of interns at Brooks and embark on a summer of learning, professional development, and exposure to the Brooks brand and culture.

Dates: Start dates will align for both quarter and semester students. May/June - August/September 2025

This Opportunity:

Our Apparel Development Team is seeking an Apparel Material Development Intern to work at our Seattle HQ offices. This position will work closely with the Material Development team, which is responsible for all seasonal material development, material sourcing, trim development, material innovation and packaging development and compliance. The team also works closely with the Apparel Development, Design and PLM Teams in the full product creation cycle. We also work closely with Sourcing to understand Tier 1 and Tier 2 supplier opportunities, partnering with our Taiwan office and Senior Material Developer based in Taipei. 
 
The Apparel Material Development intern is an integral part of the seasonal material development process, building critical product and process knowledge while working as part of a cross-functional product creation team. You will gain knowledge across different material and trim constructions and processes involved in development including; engineering warps, wefts, and wovens. You will also research raw material properties, testing, and costing and how this impacts material development. Under the mentorship of our Material Development Manager, you will gain an understanding of manufacturing capabilities, anticipating issues, problem solving, and possible resolutions with a focus specifically on packaging from design sign off from Brand Creative through to production. 

Your Impact (Responsibilities):

    • Work with cross-functional partners on material construction, features and benefits to understand the desired outcome of the seasonal product. 
    • Maintain a toolbox of items and keep up to date a reference library of approved textiles and trims; with marked approval dates and current technical spec/cost sheets. 
    • Collaborate with Brand Creative to review seasonal packaging needs and partner on the development of new hang tags for production. 
    • Work closely with the Development Team through S26 proto reviews to assess new fabrics and trims. 
    • Collaborate with the Taiwan office on testing requirements. 
    • Understand Brooks sustainability goals and how this relates to the current seasonal developments. 
    • Meet with members of Development, Design and PLM team(s) to understand their roles, areas of responsibility, and current project focuses.  

Project:

    • As a part of your experience as an intern at Brooks, you will have the opportunity to complete a project under the support and supervision of your manager. Details of your project will be finalized once you arrive at Brooks based on your interests, and the needs of the business. You will present your work and findings to leadership at Brooks at the end of your internship, to hone in on your research, recommendation, and presentation skills.  

    • A high-level project outline for this internship opportunity is as follows: 
    • As part of the Material Development Team, you will partner with Brand Creative on the development and execution of seasonal packaging. This will include the review or artwork, creating specs for hand off to the vendor and communication internally and externally to ensure the successful creation of seasonal packaging stories. 

Skills & Qualifications:

    • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Textile Design, Fashion, Design or a related field 
    • Willing to commit to the intern position for three months onsite in Seattle, WA 
    • Willingness to learn and gain hands-on experience. 
    • Able to commit to up to 40 hours a week to be physically present at HQ. 
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating effective listening through concise, clear verbal and written communication. 
    • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 
    • Experience with Illustrator. 
    • Strong organizational skills. 
    • Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products. 
    • Must be able to collaborate in a team-oriented environment.

    • Experience in inventory systems and techniques is a nice to have.

Compensation:
