Bustle is seeking a Design Director for its video department to oversee a range of projects. Our focus ranges from short-form branded content to editorial content, primarily for platforms such as YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.

The ideal candidate is a collaborator and a leader with a strong motion graphics background and an affinity for great content on multiple platforms. 

This person's day to day focuses on managing several aspects of pre-production, production and post-production for all shoots, overseeing the design and execution of graphic packages for editorial and branded content for all BDG owned verticals (Bustle, Elite Daily, The Zoe Report, Romper, Gawker, Mic, The Outline) and often jumping in and designing content as needed. The video Design Director is also responsible for communicating with other departments to ensure brand consistency is carried throughout, managing a team of 2, as well as figuring out creative ways to keep the BDG audience engaged and excited while elevating our content.

Responsibilities

    • Overseeing design and animation for all video projects from concept to production 
    • Creative problem solving for editorial briefs and branded campaigns (could include storyboards, decks)
    • Overseeing and executing deliverables of toolkits and assets
    • Branding digital short-form series
    • Working in collaboration with the head of video, post production supervisor and executive producer to ensure projects are aligned with client standards and adhere to timelines
    • Managing a team of two: one Jr. Art Director and one Jr. Motion Graphics Designer
    • Overseeing budgets for shoots and assisting our Jr. Art Director on styling choices and occasional prop sourcing 
    • Anticipating team needs and being able to provide support whenever freelance assistance is required
    • Being a team leader and an advocate for your team

Requirements

    • 7-9 years of professional experience in design, advertising, branding or a media company
    • Strong portfolio with excellent craft
    • Fluent in the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator
    • Skilled in Keynote
    • Team player, strong communicator
    • Excellent work ethic
    • Open to feedback
    • Strong project management skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Must be organized in file handling/upkeep in a server system
    • No egos please
