W magazine is seeking a full-time Copy Manager. The ideal applicant is a thorough reader with a keen attention to detail who can quickly catch and fix mistakes of spelling, punctuation, grammar, and syntax, both online and in print. In addition to reading for context and ensuring adherence to house style, the Copy Manager will write photo captions for the magazine. Applicants should be familiar with the range of topics covered by W magazine and have a strong sense of W ’s tone and sensibility. 

Responsibilities

    • Set house style for W and maintain Style Guide
    • Read for clarity, accuracy, and consistency across a range of content, including print and digital articles, newsletters, and video captions
    • Communicate and coordinate with editors, researchers, and others to make certain that text is up-to-date and correct, balancing needs and priorities to meet deadlines
    • Input text changes and ensure that all concerns have been addressed
    • Write photo captions for the magazine, in coordination with editors and Research
    • Schedule and oversee freelance copy editors
    • Duties apply to the print magazine as well as to the website

Requirements

    • 5 to 8 years of related editorial experience
    • An ability to work both quickly and accurately
    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
    • Decisive, well-organized, and able to meet tight deadlines
    • Capable of working independently as well as part of a team
    • Comfortable responding to shifting priorities and demands based on department needs
    • A deep interest in the realms of fashion, art, photography, film and television, and culture, and a detailed understanding of the fashion industry, its major players, and its audience
    • Familiarity with InCopy, K4, and WordPress a plus
    • Candidates may be asked to take a copy test
