We are seeking a skilled Lifting Superintendent to oversee and manage all lifting operations on a major construction project.
This role requires extensive experience with heavy lifts (up to ~250 tonnes), crane operations, rigging, safety standards, and strong coordination skills. You will be responsible for ensuring safe, efficient lift planning, supervising execution, and maintaining all lifting and rigging equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and implement lift plans for critical and major lifts (including dual lifts, large-capacity lifts up to ~250 tons).
- Select rigging arrangements; verify ground conditions; perform radius checks; ensure proper setup of lifting systems.
- Peer-review lift plans for all major lifts.
- Manage and maintain the lift gear register for both the core project and subcontractors, ensure daily inspections and formal quarterly inspections.
- Set up anti-collision systems and verify them daily.
- Use lift plan and crane configuration software to model and validate lifting operations.
- Ensure sufficient lifting supervisors are deployed and actively managing site operations.
- Develop Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS) for erection and dismantling of tower cranes, crawler cranes, and mobile cranes.
- Supervise the erection and dismantling processes of tower and crawler cranes.
- Procure all lifting gear required for the project, including ordering crane equipment as needed.
- Onboard and train riggers and site personnel in lifting / rigging procedures.
- Deliver morning briefings to rigging teams; coordinate daily lifts and all lifting equipment use.
- Liaise with crane suppliers for scheduling, equipment delivery, and component supply.
- Collaborate with subject-matter experts to flag and resolve lift-related concerns.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Certified in lifting supervision or equivalent; solid understanding of lifting regulations, codes, and industry best practices.
- Strong Health & Safety knowledge, especially as it relates to heavy lifting, rigging, and crane operations.
- Demonstrated experience planning and executing complex lift operations.
- Technical or engineering degree, or equivalent qualification in construction / mechanical / structural discipline.
- Prior experience as a lifting supervisor, crane / rigging coordinator, or similar position on large construction or infrastructure projects.
- Proficient in RAMS development and crane-lift software tools.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills; capable of coordinating multiple contractors, site teams, and vendors.
