The CIO Consultant is matched with a client institution where they will play a vital role in ensuring that technology is effectively aligned and leveraged to support the institution's mission vision and values. 

The CIO is accountable for all aspects of IT strategy, alignment, planning, IT budget, and support for the organization.  The two critical competencies for the CIO are to fully understand the goals, objectives, and operations of the organization at a functional level.  The CIO will need to be fully versed in the operational parameters of the organization and function at a peer level with the Senior Cabinet and executives.  Secondly, the CIO must be technically competent to lead the technical team and align their efforts such that the team delivers coordinated, effective, efficient IT services to the organization.
 
The CIO will be accountable for establishing and maintaining performance metrics that measure and report the effectiveness of the IT activities and IT investments made by the organization.  These metrics should be driven by student outcomes and other organizational metrics that demonstrate how the organization is better able to meet its goals and objectives through e careful investment in technology to meet those goals. 
 
Responsibilities:
·         Develop and maintain ongoing professional relationships with the senior leadership team and the President of the organization such that there is trust and alignment between the IT function and the rest of the organization.
·         Lead the strategic IT planning, alignment, and tactical planning for the organization as well as being accountable for facilitating the IT governance process(s) necessary to prioritize, fund, and deliver IT services for the organization.  
·         Create IT Strategic Plans that include detailed processes to guide operations.
·         Utilize IT Governance to make decisions.
·         Manage IT portfolios and maintain alignment.
·         Manage IT budget.
·         Lead IT staffing, mentoring, development
·         Maintain IT vendor and manage contracts.
·         Plan for adoption and implementation for the future 
·         Mentor IT staff and ensure development.
·         Communicate effectively with all members of the team.
·         Maintain sharp knowledge of IT operations, ERP support, CRM support, Data Management and BI, LMS, Application development and support, infrastructure and Communications, Help Desk, Web
 
Qualifications and Requirements
·         Bachelor's degree in computer science, business, or related field. An MBA or master's degree is desirable.
·         A strong track record as CIO or CTO with at least 10 years experience with 5 or more years in a college or university environment
·         Experience with and a broad understanding of higher education challenges and the application of technology solutions to resolving those challenges.  The CIO should have a solid understanding of core higher education technology solutions necessary to address those challenges.
·         Experience with higher education technology solutions
·         Experience in facilitating diverse groups to an agreed-upon outcome that is aligned with the best interest of the college. 
·         Extensive knowledge of ERP Technologies (i.e., Banner, Colleague, etc.)
·         Modernize and upgrade obsolete technology capabilities to current standards for efficient and effective IT operations.
·         Create roadmaps to adopt future technologies that will improve performance, organizational alignment, and lower IT operational costs. 
· Led conversations about changes in IT funding from CAPEX models to OPEX models necessary to support ongoing IT operations.
·         Exceptional leadership abilities and communication both orally and in written word
·         Ability to deal with ambiguity and from that be able to organize and set priorities for the organization.  The CIO will need to differentiate between urgent requests and important requests and prioritize accordingly.
·         Ability to lead an organization through change and transformation.
·         Ability to manage people and foster an environment of positive employee engagement and trust. Experience leading and managing people and fostering an environment of positive employee engagement and trust throughout the organization.
