Position Summary:
This position is responsible for providing client care through focused assessment, treatment and discharge planning of individuals who have been diagnosed with an operational stress injury (mental health condition) resulting from their policing or military service across Alberta. The Occupational Therapist I works within an interdisciplinary team to provide mental health services. This position reports directly to the Senior Manager with clinical guidance by the Occupational Therapist III.
Areas of treatment include behavioral activation, in vivo exposure therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, return to work support and may include the provision of trauma therapy or cognitive rehabilitation. Treatment is delivered in individual and group formats in person, and virtually. Responsible for other related duties as required.
Program Summary:
Operational Stress Injury (OSI) Clinic – an outpatient clinic funded by Veterans Affairs Canada that supports former and current Canadian Forces members, and members of the RCMP suffering from an Operational Stress Injury who require specialized assessment and treatment.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from a recognized Masters or Degree program in Occupational Therapy
• Registration with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT)
• Eligible for membership in CAOT or SAOT
• Knowledge of PTSD treatment modalities an asset
• Trained in treatment modalities to address occupational impairment resulting from PTSD, depression, OCD, Insomnia, cognitive impairment and anxiety an asset
Experience:
• Working as an Occupational Therapist for a period of 5 years or greater preferred
• Prior work experience in a mental health position working with trauma exposed professionals and knowledge of military and policing occupations an asset
• Facilitating group mental health treatment an asset
• Experience delivering occupational therapy in person and in virtual formats
• Experience and trained in Connect Care an asset
