Carta is seeking a General Counsel to lead and manage a growing legal team that plays a central role in a rapidly growing fintech company in regulatory and legal landscapes ripe for disruption.

Reporting to the CEO, this individual will play a critical role in supporting the implementation of Carta’s business strategy and methods. Carta’s Legal team partners with product and business leaders to support a diverse suite of product and service offerings, which ranges from equity management software to employee equity solutions for public companies.   


    • Contribute to the Carta leadership team by providing guidance on business initiatives and executive decisions
    • Work cross-functionally across the business to mitigate legal risk
    • Own all strategy and counseling for all legal matters, including financial and securities regulations, HR, employment, IP, litigation and others
    • Build, manage, and lead a team that drives analyses of our various businesses and develop a deep understanding of key value drivers to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities
    • Ensure product and service offerings comply with local, state, federal and applicable international legal requirements
    • Oversee risk management and scale best practices across the organization


    • 10+ years of General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, or Partner experience in a corporate setting
    • Experience working with financial and securities regulatory agencies (SEC, FINRA, CFTC)
    • Motivated to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment to accelerate Carta’s growth
    • Experience managing complex projects while demonstrating exceptional business judgement and building relationships with executive teams
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to distill complex legal concepts and into simple, actionable recommendations
    • Comfort with ambiguity, and an ability to both delve into details and engage meaningfully on overall strategy
    • Ability to seek information, solve conceptual problems, corral resources and deliver results in challenging situations
    • History of developing junior colleagues and building capabilities of teams for scalable growth


    • Experience in enterprise software, SaaS, financial services, and/or fintech
    • Solid technology skills/ability to work closely with technical and product teams across the firm
