Cartography Biosciences is a therapeutics organization creating the first atlas to identify targets that are specific enough to only engage cancerous cells, broad enough to work across cancer cells and patients, and safe enough to sidestep toxic side effects. Founded by Kevin Parker, Howard Chang, and Ansu Satpathy, Cartography is bridging immunology and computation to understand the critical differences between normal and cancerous cells, ultimately solving the challenge of finding the safest, most selective targets for a variety of immunotherapeutic approaches. 

Our Finance and Accounting team is seeking a full-time, hands-on Accounting Manager to start the team! As our first in-house finance employee at Cartography, you will be responsible for accounting functions, including full-cycle month-end close, accounts payable, and payroll. Reporting to our CEO, our Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing general accounting, assisting with the creation of financial statements and management reporting, as well as assisting with the creation and management of departmental budgets and forecasts.

Experience with developing and establishing policies and procedures within a corporation is highly preferred. Our ideal candidate has worked at or with early-stage biotech start-ups, is a strong individual contributor, and can work independently. This position is in a highly collaborative, innovative and rapidly evolving environment and interfaces with multiple teams and functions across the organization. 

What You'll Do

    • Manage Quickbooks,, Brex, Quartzy and other accounting and finance software systems
    • Run budget vs actuals relative to the financial model
    • Be responsible for day-to-day accounting work
    • Oversee month-end financial close
    • Prepare monthly financial summaries
    • Process employee payroll
    • Mentor and train future team members
    • Manage Accounts Payable
    • Assist with future finance and accounting software implementations

About You

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA, a plus
    • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
    • Experience working in a fast-paced start-up environment
    • Familiarity with current and relevant accounting standards
    • Experience working with pre-commercial biotech/life sciences companies, required
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Team player with a strong desire to be an active, long-term participant in Cartography’s growth
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
