Cartography Biosciences is a therapeutics organization creating the first atlas to identify targets that are specific enough to only engage cancerous cells, broad enough to work across cancer cells and patients, and safe enough to sidestep toxic side effects. Founded by Kevin Parker, Howard Chang, and Ansu Satpathy, Cartography is bridging immunology and computation to understand the critical differences between normal and cancerous cells, ultimately solving the challenge of finding the safest, most selective targets for a variety of immunotherapeutic approaches. 

Our Immunology team is seeking an experienced and driven Research Associate or Sr.
Research Associate with expertise in antibody drug discovery and protein engineering to help
build and advance our IO and Cell Therapy capabilities. Reporting to our Director of Antibody
Engineering, you will be responsible for designing, cloning, expressing, purifying, and
characterizing novel biologics and immunotherapy products in our development pipeline. This
position is in a highly collaborative, innovative, and rapidly evolving environment and interfaces
with multiple teams and functions across the organization.

What You’ll Do:
● Design, construct, and sequence verify new vectors for antibody and antigen expression
● Prepare plasmids and perform transient transfections of mammalian expression cell
lines for the production of biologics
● Express and purify diverse biologics including bispecific and engineered antibodies for
preclinical therapeutic assessment
● Biophysically characterize antibodies to understand binding kinetics/epitopes and assess
● Design complex experiments under guidance while executing independently with
scientific rationale
● Design, execute and critically analyze experiments independently and interpret complex
data, drawing appropriate conclusions
● Maintain an accurate and well-organized digital lab notebook and sample inventory
● Document and summarize experimental results and communicate findings to the
scientific team
● Proactively identify and execute ways to keep the lab running smoothly
● Identify problems with experiments and troubleshoot solutions

About You:
● B.S. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or related field with
at least 3+ years’ relevant experience, or M.S. with at least 1+ years of relevant industry
● Proficient with standard molecular biology and cloning techniques (plasmid
preparation/purification, Gibson assembly, bacterial transformation, etc.)
● Experienced with mammalian cell culture, preferably experience culturing and
transfecting Expi293F cells for protein expression
● Knowledge of protein biochemistry and competence in routine analytical protein
characterization techniques (e.g., SDS/PAGE, HPLC-SEC, BLI/SPR, DSF, etc.)
● Experience with common antibody purification techniques (e.g., Affinity, SEC, HIC, Ion
Exchange) using an AKTA FPLC is a plus
● Prior experience with protein display technologies (phage/yeast) is a plus
● Bioinformatic skill sets including fluency with Python or R is a plus
● Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and a track record of
highly organized record keeping
● Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and eager to contribute to a fast-paced team environment

Salary Range

    • $90,000 - $100,000
