Vice President, Innovation

The Vice President of Innovation will blend strategy, vision, ideation, storytelling, business case development and technology to enhance and differentiate the guest experience throughout the Caruso portfolio. 

Essential job functions and responsibilities

    • Leverage cutting-edge technology to enhance and differentiate the guest/resident experience across Caruso’s retail, residential, hotel, office and restaurant properties
    • Work to integrate the digital and on-property experience, envisioning the future of retail to ensure that Caruso is ahead of our guests and emerging trends
    • Create new revenue and data opportunities for Caruso
    • Develop strategies to identify and implement user-centric technology solutions that support Caruso’s track record of continually breaking new ground and redefining the shopping and lifestyle experience
    • Create a pipeline of innovation that enhances the customer experience across Caruso’s properties in areas including parking, VIP services, loyalty, gift card, security, Concierge, photo operations, delivery, payments and more
    • Formulate business plans and build consensus for a strategic roadmap to implement a campaign of innovate technology solutions that enhance the customer experience and maximize retail sales
    • Own the customer experience with respect to Caruso’s technology-specific project portfolio
    • Enhance Caruso’s loyalty platform to better track and incentivize cross-shopping across Caruso’s various properties and diverse asset classes
    • Identify and manage professional relationships with innovation and technology partners, including technology companies, retailers and solutions providers
    • Act as a trusted client partner and thought leader, relied on for strategic point of view
    • Develop functional multi-year strategic roadmaps to feed strategic plan and program/project activities
    • Lead ideation efforts with key internal stakeholders to identify areas of high opportunity
    • Develop Caruso’s overall technology partnership strategy
    • Project manage all phases of development to ensure successful launch of technology solutions (on time and on budget)
    • Measure success against metrics, and make necessary adjustments to the solution based on this feedback
    • Maintain a pipeline of solutions under development to drive future innovative solutions to market
    • Develop and manage technology/innovation budget, including accurate project forecasting 

Qualifications required

    • 10-12 years of experience leading/managing strategic technology initiatives in a retail, hospitality or operational environment
    • Proven ability to critique, analyze and elevate strategies and ideas
    • Change agent and strategic thinker that anticipates business needs and see around corners
    • Deep experience in applying technology to elevate user experience to transform the way Caruso operates
    • Ability to translate changing market dynamics into actionable strategy and implement the strategy to achieve company objectives
    • Ability to align and integrate department goals with senior management and business objectives
    • Experience in guiding leadership teams towards transformation and in helping non-technical people understand how technology can impact their world
    • Demonstrated experience growing projects into long-term partnerships
    • Strong track record of collaboration with operations and technology teams; skilled in identifying partners and implementing new technologies
    • Thought leader, skilled in applying technology to elevate the guest experience across our retail, residential, hotel, office and restaurant portfolio
    • Digital-native, forward-thinking adopter of technology
    • High degree of emotional intelligence, with ability to work with team members at every level in the organization
    • Outstanding drive and personal initiative, as well as outstanding interpersonal, teamwork, listening, verbal, written communications and presentation skills
    • Willingness to roll-up sleeves and take a hands-on approach
    • The ideal candidate will have both operational and hospitality experience
    • Experience with Six Sigma/Process Excellence tools, training, and/or certification is preferred 
    • Strong rolodex of relevant technology partners and contacts
    • Deep understanding of emerging and existing technology and retail/hospitality trends


    • BA or BS required, preferably in technology, product development, business, or related field 
    • MBA preferred
