The Director, Events & Experience, is responsible for overseeing, creating, directing and executing special events for the Caruso portfolio and branded experiences for clients and partners that are right for our guests and overall brand. This includes but is not limited to: event ideation, strategy, planning and execution; new business and budget development; client service, day to day account management, coordination of logistics, execution of revenue generation strategic brand partnerships and sponsorships deliverables; and recap and KPI reporting to internal and external stakeholders. This group is like a small events marketing and on-property production agency in-house and servicing all departments at Caruso.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    • Creates big and small consumer branded events and initiatives (entertainment studios, consumer product goods, technology/lifestyle brands, fashion, auto, finance, beauty, etc.) that extend to multiple properties with brands that enhance both the Caruso brand and the guest experience
    • Researches and studies successful (non-traditional) experiential marketing/entertainment programs developed by quality brands including sports marketing, entertainment, fashion, CPG, specialty retailers, etc.
    • Acts as executive producer for all events and experiences across Caruso properties and manage events teams and producers to oversee execution
    • Successfully and professionally manages client relationships to build ongoing or repeat relationships/business
    • Establishes Caruso as a “presence” in the market so that agencies/companies think of Caruso and its properties first when engaging in branded activations/sponsorship/partnership marketing opportunities on the West Coast
    • Interacts effectively with all levels of executives and team members for cross functional department communication in order to develop new and innovative events to promote all programming
    • Builds and maintains excellent, cooperative relationships both internally and externally with retailers, clients, staff, vendors, and senior executives
    • Works well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines in a professional, calm, collegial manner
    • Work closely with marketing department on strategy and marketing plan for the company and properties

Event Strategy/Planning/Operations

    • Work closely with Marketing and Property teams to plan and execute events for specific properties. Handle transition to client management of project while internally updating team members and account lead.
    • Lead production and activation for signature Caruso events, partnership client activations and programming on property as needed
    • Develop activation plans, workback schedules, production timelines and budgets
    • Have robust relationship with outside vendors including fabrication, design, AV, Sound, Lighting, staging, rentals, decor etc.
    • Understanding of insurance needs, negotiations of contracts and obligations, city permitting
    • Coordinate logistics with all partners and vendors for implementation
    • Create and develop strategic campaigns that drive target audience to Caruso properties and increase traffic, drive sales and meet KPIs
    • Set event marketing goals and measure effectiveness of various marketing sources; recap marketing programming to track back to KPIs for ROI
    • Oversee event creative requests with in-house designers to ensure timely and effective promotion of marketing events and tenant offers as needed
    • Develop and manage activation and budgets in conjunction with department
    • Responsible for approving invoices; tracking detailed money spent
    • Ownership of projects and activities and have full understanding of property rules and regulations
    • Liaison with property operations, PR, social, digital, creative, concierge, engineering, IT, security, housekeeping

Qualifications Required - Experience

    • College degree and 10+ years of experience in experiential marketing and special events with an experiential marketing agency or special events firm
    • Highly creative – able to develop on-target ideas to connect brands to consumers with great experiences that are in line with brand strategy
    • Ability to link great creativity to strategy, demographic needs, research, creative brief directives
    • Ability to develop beautiful proposals, complete with our venue/reach value proposition, ideas right for the client and its brand essence and strategy, overview of target demographic, budget, timeline, metrics
    • Strong execution skills and attention to flawless detail
    • Confident and solid presentation and selling skills, with the ability to articulate, present, and sell ideas to clients and win
    • Strong budgeting and project budget management skills – set and meet event budgets
    • Good mentoring skills to grow a close-knit team
    • Excellent existing relationships with at least 10 clients or agencies that have or currently participate in partnerships / branded activations in the Los Angeles designated marketing area (DMA)
    • Excellent communication and follow-up skills
    • Well resourced – knows people on the outside to call to get things done if bandwidth does not exist in-

Qualifications Required:

    • Budget Acumen
    • Skillset required to create and meet forecasts and budgets for the Caruso portfolio
    • Knows how to build an accurate budget for all vendor expenses clients need to pay for their branded events/activations, any Caruso site fees, and to cover our professional services time for providing a client service

Physical Demands:

    • Able to be on feet for 8-12 hours and during events
    • Must be mobile to move around the entire property and travel to other Caruso properties
    • Required to sit, stoop, carry boxes/supplies, kneel or crouch, climb ladders, and use handle to handle, grasp, feel or reach
    • Able to work holidays, evenings or weekends as needed

Equipment and Software Skills Needed:

    • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat and file sharing software
    • CRM/SalesForce a plus
    • Photoshop
