Your Mission: 
The Benefits Manager plays a critical role in helping the Chinese American Service League (CASL) in aligning business objectives with the competitive company benefits, compensation, and rewards. This role balances strategic responsibilities, such as designing and implementing total rewards programs, with overseeing day-to-day benefits administration and compliance. Additionally, the Benefits Manager will develop, maintain, and expand CASL’s Benefits Administration and employee utilization. Through these efforts, the Benefits Manager supports CASL’s mission by fostering a benefits experience that aligns with CASL’s policies, procedures, and inclusive culture.

What You’ll Impact 
As a Benefits Manager, you will champion inclusive, equitable benefits that reflect CASL’s values while leading with strategy to ensure offerings are competitive, cost-effective, and people-centered. Your work will strengthen employee wellbeing, engagement, and retention—allowing our staff to thrive while serving the community. 

Key Responsibilities:

    • Manage, assess, and benchmark competitive benefits, compensation, and rewards programs that strengthen the organization’s ability to attract and retain employees and deliver desired results to the organization. 
    • Conduct regular evaluations and audits of benefit offerings, PTO structures, and employee perks to ensure alignment with CASL’s goals, compliance standards, and evolving workforce needs. 
    • Design and implement benefits offerings that address the diverse needs of our workforce, ensuring programs are accessible, equitable, and aligned with CASL’s values of inclusivity and support for all employees. 
    • Manage enrollment, renewal, and delivery of benefits programs to include medical, pharmacy, vision, dental, disability, life insurance, employee assistance programs, retirement, and other supplemental offerings. 
    • Effectively plan and execute the implementation and administration of all benefit plans, including annual open enrollment efforts. 
    • Manage and review Paid Time Off (PTO) policies to ensure they support work-life balance and reflect industry best practices. 
    • Develop and manage employee perks and recognition programs that contribute to a positive and inclusive organizational culture. 
    • Support the processing, administration, and analysis of the annual compensation review cycle, including preparation, review, and delivery of merit letters, validating salary increases, and reconciling incentive and merit files to be processed by Payroll. 
    • Lead the development and execution of wellness initiatives—including mental health, stress management, and lifestyle programs—to enhance holistic employee wellbeing. 
    • Ensure compliance with ACA, COBRA, EEO, ERISA, HIPAA, FLSA, FMLA, GINA, and other applicable federal and state regulations. 
    • Serve as the main point of contact with benefits vendors/brokers and negotiate contracts, review proposals, and monitor service levels to ensure best-in-class service for employees. 
    • Track and analyze benefits utilization, costs, and employee engagement. Provide regular reports to support budgeting, forecasting, and program improvements to the VP of HR and senior leadership. 
    • Develop clear, engaging, and inclusive communication strategies to educate employees about their benefits options, wellness programs, and policy changes. 
    • Provide individualized support to employees regarding benefit inquiries, claims, and issue resolution with empathy and confidentiality. 
    • Partner with the VP of HR to align the benefits strategy with overall organizational objectives and support long-term workforce planning. 

What You Bring - To thrive in this role, you should have:


    • Education and Experience:   
    • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to Human Resources or Business Management. Master’s degree or MBA preferred. 
    • A minimum of 6 years of broad-based and progressive experience designing, developing, and managing compensation and benefits programs, with a focus on strategy, compliance, and employee engagement. 

    • Skills and Knowledge:   
    • In-depth knowledge of compensation and benefits practices, including executive compensation, equity, incentive/commission design, audits, and regulatory compliance. 
    • Proven ability to design and execute total rewards strategies that align with organizational goals and foster long-term employee engagement. 
    • Experience overseeing PTO policy development, wellness initiatives, and employee perks programs that enhance employee satisfaction and retention. 
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, draw insights, and make data-driven recommendations. 
    • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and experience working with HRIS platforms preferred. 
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop clear, accessible messaging that resonates with diverse employee populations and drives benefits utilization. 
    • Ability to engage and influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization with a collaborative, solutions-focused approach. 

Physical Demands:

    • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, with occasional lifting or moving of objects weighing up to 20 pounds. 

Environment and Scheduling:

    • The successful candidate will be based in the Chicagoland area and have the ability to be onsite at our Chinatown, Chicago location and be onsite two days a week. While this role offers remote work flexibility within the region, proximity to Chicago is essential for in-person engagement as required. 
Compensation & Benefits: 
This position offers a salary range of $105,000 - $110,000 annually, reflective of experience and qualifications.
