Position Title: HIV Epidemiologist
Location: Hybrid, Arizona

Salary: $66,000-$75,000 plus benefits
Overview:
This position serves as an intermediate-level professional epidemiologist responsible for carrying out a complex range of investigative and analytical epidemiologic activities related to the surveillance, detection, and prevention of diseases and injuries for the Office of HIV & Hepatitis C Services at the Arizona Department of Health Services. Works independently, or as an experienced team or project member, providing epidemiologic expertise for specific programs or more complex individual epidemiologic analyses, under the direction of higher-level staff.
Qualifications:
· Experience: One+ year(s) of experience working in an STD or HIV program, or other closely related programs.
· Experience: Experience serving Tribal Nations, Native Americans/American Indians, and other indigenous populations within Arizona.
· Language(s): Spanish Speaking proficiency (Upper intermediate - professional, preferred) oral.
· Valid Arizona State Driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
· Education: High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent. Preferred: A master’s degree or higher in epidemiology, public health, or related field from an accredited college or university.
Responsibilities:
· Developing and designing methods of collecting, analyzing, and disseminating data and requires general, and in some cases specific, understanding of program processes and methods for prevention, intervention, and control of public health problems;
· Conducting epidemiologic studies and outbreak investigations used in preventing and controlling specific communicable and chronic diseases, injuries, and other health conditions;
· Implementing quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods for public health practice; P
· Performing statistical analyses related to complex analytical investigations involving highly specialized scientific data;
· Applying findings to direct public health programs and recommend interventions and/or control measures;
· Interpreting and recommending evidence-based interventions and/or control measures in response to epidemiologic findings;
· Identifying and evaluating a wide range of health conditions within an assigned program;
· Conducting literature reviews for program planning, for preparation of publications, and for evaluation;
· Contributing to the development of and providing scientific and clinical guidance and technical assistance to various public, private, and nonprofit health and health-related state and local agencies and organizations;
· Serving as a scientific consultant for a public health program or project;
· Participating in internal and external committees and workgroups related to areas of expertise;
· Participating in after-hours activities including partner meetings, investigations, outbreak and emergency responses, as needed; and
· Participating in writing grants and other funding proposals.
· May provide technical leadership and guidance and coordinate work of epidemiologists, other professional staff, or technical and administrative staff, as assigned.
· Employee will be expected to make independent decisions and judgements based on their educational and professional experience and training; this position maintains and shares information and data of a very confidential nature.
· Social Security Death Match for HIV cases in Arizona and National Death Index and State Death (Vital Records/Stats)
· Support development and writing of the HIV Surveillance Annual Report and Integrated Epidemiological Profile
· Provide support to Routine Interstate Duplicate Review (RIDR) and conducting RIDR activities as needed including out of state calls to other jurisdictions
· Conduct MEDSIS batch uploads, deduplication of records, and MEDSIS data cleaning activities.
· Periodic electronic lab reporting data review
· Responding to and completing data requests for HIV surveillance data submitted to ADHS

This role is involved in a dynamic public health program. As such, roles and responsibilities are subject to change as situations evolve. Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and Arizona Department of Health Services, in order to best support the State of Arizona in their public health programming.
This position is hybrid in Arizona. CDC Foundation retains the right to make adjustments to this as required.
