The CDC Foundation is the go-to nonprofit authorized by Congress to mobilize philanthropic partners and private-sector resources to support CDC’s critical health protection mission. Since 1995, the CDC Foundation has raised over $1.9 billion and launched more than 1,300 programs impacting a variety of health threats from chronic disease conditions including cardiovascular disease and cancer, to infectious diseases like rotavirus and HIV, to emergency responses, including COVID-19 and Ebola. Roles and Responsibilities

    • Work 30 hours per week summer semester
    • Be responsible for his or her assigned work schedule and report to the internship site at the agreed upon time
    • Meet with the Internship Liaison on a weekly basis to discuss project progress and internship goals
    • Follow the CDC Foundation policies and procedures regarding dress code and professional behavior
    • Inform the Internship Liaison of any problems that might occur in a timely and reasonable manner, including concerns regarding the lack of substantive work assignments
    • Supply relevant forms and evaluations to the Internship Liaison to be completed and follow up to ensure timely submission.

Primary Activities

    • Conduct literature reviews on heat-related health impacts to support project objectives and enhance the organization’s knowledge base.
    • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of current public health interventions and policies related to heat exposure.
    • Help strategize potential workshops and/or meetings that educate community members, stakeholders, and policymakers on heat-related health issues.
    • Assist with mapping out partners for potential climate consortiums.
    • Assist with program management tasks such as scheduling meetings, coordinating with stakeholders, and managing project timelines.
    • Research to develop a list of domestic and global health and health experts and philanthropists who can serve in an expert consultancy capacity for the CDC Foundation.
    • Support the development of materials and resources for an expert convening. 

Qualifications and Necessary Skills

    • Must be enrolled in an accredited university/college program
    • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Self-directed and able to work without supervision
    • Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas
