The CDC Foundation is seeking an intern to conduct an environmental scan on public health staffing and workforce development programs. This work will help inform a strategic plan for Workforce Services as the CDC Foundation works to “strengthen the public health system to protect us all.” The Workforce Services team will provide guidance to the intern with clear objectives and goals for the project with regularly scheduled check-ins on their progress.

Duties and Responsibilities

    • Work 20 hours per week summer semester
    • Be responsible for his or her assigned work schedule and report to the internship site at the agreed upon time
    • Meet with the Internship Liaison on a weekly basis to discuss project progress and internship goals
    • Follow the CDC Foundation policies and procedures regarding dress code and professional behavior
    • Inform the Internship Liaison of any problems that might occur in a timely and reasonable manner, including concerns regarding the lack of substantive work assignments
    • Supply relevant forms and evaluations to the Internship Liaison to be completed and follow up to ensure timely submission.

Primary Activities

    • Complete an environmental scan to assist in the development of a SWOT analysis for the Workforce Services public health staffing projects.
    • Research current public health workforce challenges.
    • Conduct market research on public health staffing providers.
    • Identify and develop different staffing structures to support the management and implementation of a large workforce program. This includes identifying the current CDC Foundation staffing structures as well as identifying and developing new ones.
    • Develop a final report including findings and recommendations and present to Workforce Services leadership.

Qualifications and Necessary Skills

    • Undergraduate/Graduate student majoring in management, public health, public administration, nonprofit management, or related field.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and strong technical skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database management.
    • Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently.
    • Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact well with a variety of people.
