Position Highlights:

Position Title: Case Investigator  
Location: This position requires residency in Las Vegas, Reno, or Carson City and will be working remotely for the foreseeable future. This position will be transitioning to 1-2 days in-office attendance after the first few weeks of employment. 
Position End Date: 7/31/2024
Salary: $47,132.80 plus benefits 
 
Overview: 
 
The CDC Foundation is seeking a General Communicable Disease (GCD) Case Investigator who is a public health professional who will provide support to the Nevada DHHS. The GCD Case Investigator is responsible for reaching out to people with laboratory confirmed GCDs and providing health education and guidance in order to interrupt ongoing disease transmission. The GCD Case Investigator will conduct interviews with patients to gather information including symptom history, source of illness, list of close contacts, and activity history while infectious. 
 
Qualifications: 
•Preferred Educational Qualifications- Associate degree or equivalent with up to two year of applicable community experience  
•Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university, with no experience.   
•Minimum Educational Qualifications- High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent with up to three years of applicable community experience.   
•Strong verbal and written communication skills, including active listening, emotional intelligence  
•Ability to interact in an empathetic and non-judgmental manner with culturally diverse populations and persons experiencing a wide range of social conditions  
•Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and the ability to use sound judgment in responding to client issues and concerns  
•Ability to read and write in English  
•Ability to adapt to changing environments and receive constructive feedback   
•Ability to use discretion, maintain confidentiality and ethical conduct  
•Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, establishing and maintaining collaborative professional relationships   
•Strong time management skills (organization, prioritization, multitasking)   
•Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team  
•Proficiency with use of computers (desktop, laptop, tablet)  
•Proficiency with use of mobile devices (smartphones, mobile apps)   
 
Responsibilities:  
 
•Perform disease investigations, patient interviews, partner elicitation and notification. 
•Interview cases, contacts and others in the community concerning personal behaviors and activities which contribute to disease transmission and provide information regarding treatment sources, necessary security requirements and other procedures to reduce the spread or prevalence of the disease.  
•Review medical treatments received by case patients and consult with providers to provide expert information on interpretation of results and treatment.  
•Ensure that identified contacts to diseases receive appropriate prevention information and are referred for appropriate medical evaluation and treatments. 
•Obtain and review demographic, locating, laboratory, clinical and risk information in order to determine investigation priorities, per local protocols 
•Employ dynamic communication and interpersonal skills, cultural competency/sensitivity, tactful language, and empathetic interviewing skills to build rapport and maintain trust with patients and contacts of varied backgrounds 
•Work with the patient to identify close contacts during the contact elicitation window.  
•Recommend appropriate risk reduction measures and implement appropriate disease control and preventive measures. 
•Document case investigations appropriately for accurate and organized gathering of information.

This role is involved in a dynamic public health program. As such, roles and responsibilities are subject to change as situations evolve. Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, in order to best support the State of Nevada in their public health programming.   
 
   
This position is located in Carson City, Nevada or Remote with a requirement of Nevada residency.
