Location: This position will work a hybrid schedule based in Atlanta, GA. Relocation expenses are not provided.
Salary Range: $85,000-$100,000, plus benefits

Overview
The Epidemiologist will support the independent design, development, and implementation of epidemiological surveillance, research, evaluation, and dissemination to support drowning prevention activities. The Epidemiologist will work across activities to provide support to strengthen state and jurisdiction-level drowning data, analyze data to identify risk factors associated with increased risk of drowning and support the qualitative evaluation of a swim skills training project. The Epidemiologist will serve as a resource for state-based field employees, technical and policy advisors to collect, analyze and interpret a range of qualitative and quantitative data to inform and strengthen drowning prevention initiatives in the United States.
The Epidemiologist may be asked to travel (5%) to support the project objectives, as necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Conduct literature reviews on drowning-related topics and develop questions around fatal and nonfatal drownings.
2. Work effectively with partners from other agencies, multi-disciplinary professionals, lay organizations, individuals, and other water safety stakeholders.
3. Collaborate with internal and external partners to identify new data sources that could help provide a better understanding of the burden of drowning and identify information gaps.
4. Provide authoritative scientific guidance or consultation to other scientists and staff contributing to research, surveillance, and control of injuries.
5. Develop dissemination materials based on fatal and nonfatal drowning data, including summary and state-specific fact sheets, data visualizations, manuscripts, and/or surveillance reports.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. A Master’s degree is required (preferably in public health or a health-related field).
2. At least two years of experience leading the analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data.
3. Proven ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at conferences.
4. Proficiency in SAS, R, or other statistical analysis software and Microsoft Office Suite are required.
5. Organizational skills demonstrating high attention to detail and the ability to organize multiple priorities.
6. Strong written and oral communication skills.
7. Experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and engaging in strategic partnerships and strong interpersonal skills required for teamwork and interaction with people across CDC and with external partners.
8. Strong understanding of drowning or other injury prevention epidemiology.
9. Demonstrated experience interacting effectively and achieving results with internal team members and external partners.
10. Ability to work well both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
$85,000 - $100,000 a year
