Job Purpose:

CEF are looking for an AWS Cloud Data Engineer to join the Business Intelligence & Analytics Team in supporting the creation of a cloud based data lake for our wholesale operations on a day-to-day basis and our journey to the cloud. As part of the Business Intelligence & Analytics Team, you will be part of a highly talented and dedicated team that is passionate about delivering value through positive interactions with the business.

You'll work closely with our Data Engineering Manager and another AWS Cloud Data Engineer on managing the on-premise SQL Server databases whilst also looking at designing the future of our AWS cloud based data lake that will allow us to make more data driven decisions from a tactical to strategic level across the business.

Our Business Intelligence & Analytics Team meet in person in Durham once a week however this position can be done remotely from anywhere in the UK (Please note some travel to the Durham office will be required on an ad/hoc basis when needed)

Essential Experience:

    • Previous experience in a data engineering role in a Microsoft stack environment (SQL Server, T-SQL, Postgres etc.)
    • Exposure to AWS Data Engineering services like Redshift, Athena, S3, Glue & others
    • You'll have experience working in depth with Data Modelling and creating Data Warehouses
    • Experience with Typescript and CDK
    • Understanding of enterprise grade ETL data pipelines
    • Experience with languages like JavaScript, Typescript, Scala, Python, Spark or SQL
    • Demonstrable knowledge of applying Data Engineering best practices (coding practices to unit testing, version control, code review).

Beneficial Experience:

    • Familiarity with bronze, silver and gold data engineering terminologies
    • Experience with design and implementation of AWS Cloud based data engineering solutions at an enterprise level including sizing, configuration and needs assessment would be highly beneficial
    • Experience of Jira Service Desk, Software and Confluence packages
    • Ambition to learn new technologies.
