At CESO, The Sr Landscape Designer is a technically advanced contributor responsible for leading the development of schematic concepts and independently preparing detailed construction documents. This position demonstrates proficiency in site investigations, zoning and code research, and coordination with subconsultants. The Sr Landscape Designer develops advanced visualizations, leads planting design efforts, and mentors junior staff. They also play a key role in construction administration, including submittal reviews, RFIs, and site observations, and participate in QA/QC reviews under the guidance of senior staff. This position bridges technical execution and emerging leadership, supporting project delivery while building toward licensure and broader project ownership.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead the development of schematic design concepts in alignment with client goals, site constraints, and project programs.
- Independently prepare detailed construction documents, including layout, grading, planting, and hardscape plans, in compliance with company standards.
- Conduct site investigations and field measurements during early project phases to document existing conditions and inform design development.
- Perform zoning and code research, including communication with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), with support from senior staff.
- Coordinate with subconsultants (e.g., civil, structural, environmental) and integrate their data into cohesive design packages.
- Develop advanced visualizations and presentation graphics using AutoCAD, Photoshop, SketchUp, and Lumion.
- Lead planting design efforts, ensuring plant selection aligns with site conditions, AHJ requirements, and client expectations.
- Mentor and guide Designers and Co-ops, supporting their growth toward licensure and technical proficiency, with oversight from senior staff.
- Participate in QA/QC reviews and internal design critiques to ensure deliverables meet internal standards and project objectives.
- Support construction administration tasks, including submittal reviews, RFIs, and site observations during the construction phase, in collaboration with senior staff.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture or related field is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in landscape architecture design, with a focus on site planning, planting design and construction documentation is required.
- Computer skills necessary to enter daily timesheet data and use Microsoft Outlook for email correspondence.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, Lumion, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam and Microsoft Office is expected.
- Progression toward Landscape Architecture Registration is encouraged.
