About Commonwealth Fusion Systems:

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy.

Combining decades of research, top talent and new technologies, we’re designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And working with policymakers and suppliers to build the energy industry of the future.

We’re in the best position to make it happen. Since 2018, we’ve raised over $2 billion in capital – more than any other fusion energy company in the U.S.

Now we’re looking for more thinkers, doers, builders, and makers to join us. People who’ll bring new perspectives, solve tough problems, and thrive as part of a team.

If that’s you and this role fits, we want to hear from you.

You will be responsible for activities relating to design and construction engineering within the mechanical discipline. Duties include working with engineering teams in the planning, sequencing, assembling, and issuing of construction Work Packages; development of installation specifications, 3D model coordination, interpreting design drawings and specifications, field verification of materials, monitoring construction progress, response to questions by constructors, providing direction in the field to ensure construction is in compliance with engineering documentation and developing handover packages to commissioning.

This team member will:

    • Coordinate with engineering on constructibility and design issues relating to mechanical and process systems
    • Identify the content of engineering document packages (Work Packages) required to support construction activities in the field
    • Plan, sequence, assemble, and issue construction Work Packages
    • Establish strong working relationships with the engineering teams responsible for the various process systems to facilitate conversion of engineering/design to physical plant
    • Oversee the maintenance of construction configuration management
    • Responsible for tracking, reporting, and forecasting activities in the field
    • Coordinate with the Procurement Organization for field procured materials, material substitution, services, and equipment
    • Review material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct materials
    • Coordinate the preparation of cost reports, forecasts, and progress reports
    • Coordinate with Field Supervision and Subcontractors to plan/support construction schedules
    • Recommend and implement procedures to ensure construction remains in compliance with the requirements of engineering and design
    • Ensure engineering and procurement provide timely delivery of drawings, materials, and equipment
    • Review material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct materials
    • Support the construction quality program
    • Support problem solving in the field and serve as liaison between Construction and Engineering
    • Support development and implementation of the Request for Information (RFI) process between Construction and CFS engineering
    • Development of turnover packages in accordance with defined system / sub-system breakdown.
    • Tracks pending issues and actions impacting system turnover.
    • Coordinates and facilitates system walkdowns
    • Reviews field generated inspection records for quality and completeness
    • Reviews field generated punch list items for quality and completeness and progress in project database
    • Supports the implementation of the records retention and turnover plans

The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
    • 5+ years in a mechanical or process design and construction environment
    • Knowledgeable of the process to engineer, design and construct complex industrial projects
    • Knowledge Codes and standards
    • Ability to read and understand engineering documents issued for construction
    • Knowledge of mechanical and process systems

Additional experience and/or qualifications:

    • Experience in construction and technical inspection of mechanical and process systems
    • Previous work experience in construction or an industrial environment
