Commonwealth Fusion Systems is looking for a dedicated Quality Engineer to play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the quality standards for our SPARC project. This position involves a hands-on approach to the manufacturing process, non-conformance management, quality control inspections, and involvement in the assembly and construction verification stages, ensuring the highest quality outcomes.

This team member will:

    • Lead and manage Root Cause Corrective Actions (RCCAs) to prevent new non-conformances.
    • Maintain and update Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and Control Plans.
    • Ensure timely execution of Quality Control (QC) inspections and conduct final quality reviews of manufactured components.
    • Review inspection data trends to identify quality issues and areas for improvement.
    • Proactively follow up on Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for timely resolution.
    • Manage the Material Review Board (MRB) area, overseeing the disposition of non-conforming materials.
    • Support the assembly and construction phases by verifying and validating processes and components.
    • Work closely with different teams to ensure consistent quality standards throughout all project phases.
    • Develop and implement quality inspection methods and measurement systems.
    • Analyze manufacturing data and conduct statistical analyses to identify and implement quality improvements.

The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:

    • BS in Mechanical, Industrial, Material Science or Manufacturing Engineering
    • Minimum 5 years of Quality Engineering experience in manufacturing environment
    • ISO 9001-2015, Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Process Capability Analysis, PFMEA, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), APQP
    • GD&T and Metrology
    • Knowledge of NDE (non-destructive evaluation) methods including dye penetrant, ultrasonic, computerized tomography, and x-ray
    • Minitab or JMP, MS Excel (including VBA), MS Visio
    • Excellent communication and organization skills

Additional experience and/or qualifications:

    • Experience with Welding Process and  Nondestructive Testing
    • Experience with assembly of large metallic components
    • Experience with CMM or Romer Arm
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
    • Perform activities such as typing, standing, and sitting, for extended periods of time
    • Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics
    • Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call or long hours
