Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) has the fastest, lowest cost path to commercial fusion energy.

CFS collaborates with MIT to leverage decades of research combined with groundbreaking new high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology. HTS magnets will enable compact fusion power plants that can be constructed faster and at lower cost. Our mission is to deploy these power plants to meet global decarbonization goals as fast as possible. To that end, CFS has assembled a team of leaders in tough tech, fusion science, and manufacturing with a track record of rapid execution. To implement this plan, we are looking to add dedicated people to the team who treat people well, improve our work by adding multifaceted perspectives and new ways of solving problems, have achieved outstanding results through a range of pursuits, and have skills and experience related to this role.

This position will be responsible for managing and researching relevant public policies to support commercial growth. This is a new position at a high growth company that will support the global policy and public affairs team as well as government relations. It is part of a broader company effort as we work to pave the way to bring clean commercial fusion energy to the world. The ideal candidate has experience working in public policy roles and a willingness to learn and grow.

This team member will:

    • Report to Principal Global Policy Lead to support research and drafting of relevant policies aimed at facilitating commercial fusion energy development and deployment on a time scale that matters for climate change
    • Coordinate with commercial team to support business development and ARC siting objectives
    • Coordinate with broader government relations team including consultants and lobbyists at the state, federal and international level to ensure consistency on policy strategies and messaging
    • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to organize, participate, represent and support the team at relevant meetings, hearings, and events
    • Participate in policy strategy discussions surrounding government relations, business development, and regulatory matters
    • Project manage government delegation visits and related internal events
    • Draft white papers, fact sheets, and other educational materials to support policy objectives
    • Support public affairs and community relations efforts as needed

The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, public administration or similar field
    • Experience working in (1-5 years) public policy and/or government relations
    • Experience researching, interpreting, analyzing legislation and regulations
    • Strong communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to effectively relay complex information in a concise format, including development of public comment letters, Congressional testimony, and advocacy materials
    • Demonstrated ability to work proactively, efficiently, prioritize workflow and meet demanding deadlines

Additional experience and/or qualifications:

    • Familiarity with policies and laws relevant to energy generation, clean tech, renewable energy, and environmental sector
    • Experience working with cross-functional teams to craft public policies to support company objectives
    • Extended activities such as typing, standing, sitting, etc.
    • Work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
