The Manufacturing Supervisor reports directly to a Production Manager and is responsible for managing production operations during a shift. This includes leading and training the staff, following production processes, and coordinating maintenance and upkeep of equipment with the maintenance team. The supervisor must follow best practices of operating in a USDA facility and lead efforts to continuously improve processes in a lean environment. The supervisor works closely with a Production Manager, the planning managers, and other members of the Operations teams to ensure that productivity targets are met, and downtime events are kept to a minimum.

Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Manage production operations during the shift and ensure personnel are trained, schedules meet planned output, machine operations are efficient, and facilities remain clean and functional.
    • Monitor production to ensure the highest quality products are packaged and shipped to customers.
    • Coordinate production operations activities with other department leaders to ensure that all manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
    • Lead the management and control of inventories during the shift.
    • Provide leadership, coaching, development, and training to the production operations team to accomplish company goals and values.
    • Work closely with the maintenance team to ensure that all machines are kept at top operating performance.
    • Adhere to HACCP plan and production controls and ensure all team members follow established protocol in a USDA plant.
    • Improve costs and manage quality of product through quality processes such as lean production, continuous improvement, 6S, and others.
    • Maintain and improve food safety, food defense, and food quality programs within the operation.
    • Ensure accuracy of data and documents related to production, shipping, and maintenance.

Required Skills/Abilities:

    • Basic knowledge of the product, production processes and other techniques for maximizing the level of production.
    • Ability to follow instructions and established procedures
    • Ability to work alone or as a member of a team
    • Awareness of sanitation and hygiene procedures and practices,
    • Concern for the safety of self and co-workers and a responsible attitude.
    • Proven ability to lead a group of people to accomplish established targets. Strong interpersonal skills are a must for this role.
    • Solid computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ERP systems.
    • Ability to solve problems and present effective and efficient solutions in a clear and concise manner. Must be detail oriented and organized, yet flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances.
    • Able to prioritize workload according to changing demands.
    • Ability to receive and provide instructions in a positive manner.
    • Desire to learn, grow and contribute in a team-based environment.
    • BS degree in Business, Operations, Food Science, Engineering, Manufacturing or related field and a minimum of 1 year meat processing operations OR equivalent experience in food manufacturing is acceptable for the education requirement.
$65,000 - $75,000 a year
