About Charm

Our mission is to reverse climate change and return the atmosphere to 280 ppm CO₂, profitably. We convert waste biomass into carbon-rich bio-oil and inject it into permanent, underground storage as carbon removal, or reform the bio-oil to produce syngas for fossil-free steel.

Our carbon removal pathway took off in 2020 with initial purchases from customers like Stripe, Shopify & Microsoft. In 2021 and 2022 we delivered thousands of tons of carbon removal via off-the-shelf pathways, and also deployed our first R&D prototype pyrolyzer of our own. In the next 18 months, we'll build and deploy the next pyrolyzer revision, demonstrate our fossil-free ironmaking pilot, substantially expand our operations in Colorado and put thousands of tonnes of CO₂e underground.

We're looking to expand our team of ambitious creative and hands-on engineers, fabricators, operators, and forward-thinking humans. We value psychological safety and collaboration. We take calculated risks and don't sweep mistakes under the rug; instead, we pin them to the wall and learn from them. We value that everyone’s unique backgrounds and perspectives shape their work. We encourage you to read our company values.

Come help us reverse climate change. Gigatons or bust!

About the role

We’re looking for a seasoned leader who wants the opportunity to run a complete product independently – you’d be basically running a startup within a startup.

The goal of your workstream is to utilize our product, bio oil, in an economically beneficial way.  The way we believe has the most potential is utilizing bio oil as a fuel for iron reduction, but we want you to always keep an eye out for methods of utilizing the bio oil beyond this one.

You’ll lead a current team of 6 (and continue to grow the team as needed) through a technical roadmap of bringing a market disruptive technology from 0 to 1, and scaling that technology to meet the market size.

Your impact on Charm will be leading our 5-10+ year market opportunities.

Responsibilites

    • You will be responsible for developing and executing the team roadmap, which is currently focused on utilizing Charm’s product, bio oil, as a replacement for parts of the ironmaking process.  This execution plan and path will be shared with and updated often to Charm’s leadership team.
    • Your roadmap development will include creating key technical milestones that your team of 6+ engineers and technicians will rally around, and work to execute as quickly as possible.
    • You will serve as the final decision maker on technical decisions that relate to safety, workstream prioritization, and resource allocation.  This includes how teammate are allocated on different potential pathways for utilizing our bio oil.
    • You will strive to keep the team lean, but advocate for additional teammates when critical to the execution path that you’ve clearly articulated.
    • You will report to the Head of Engineering.

You bring:

    • Proven 3+ years experience leading a cross functional team to deliver results, notably by bringing a technology from 0 to 1.
    • An acumen for business-based decision making, as you know that a technology is only as successful as its ability to disrupt the market.
    • An aptitude for creating clarity across the organization, and an ability to communicate both within your team and synthesize information for other stakeholders.  This clarity helps you to get buy-in from both your team and leadership on your strategic direction.

Bonus, if you bring:

    • Experience with developing chemical processes in new or novel ways.
$150,000 - $200,000 a year
The anticipated salary range is dependent on factors such as experience within the job, within the industry, education, etc
